My latest, SILENT CREEK, has been launched into the world!!

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey: Don't just say this is about "thoughts and prayers," right now. These kids were literally praying.
I don't know who needs to know this, but Pro Publica has an online thing that will format a letter to your US health insurance company to demand the records behind a claim denial. (which the insurance is then legally required to provide in most cases)

After calling out a company for having a device that was clearly to large for small hands (“did you include any women on R&D?), they made sure to modify the next model to fit women’s hands. Work with industry to include women!
Study of female surgeons finds they were passed over for surgical referrals, paid less for equivalent procedures and given less time in the operating room, They also had to use tools too large for their hands as surgical spaces & tools were built for men.

Booker: Do you think we got the right to vote for women because a bunch of men on the House floor got together and said “on the count of three, women get the right to vote..” That’s not how it happened… Change doesn’t come from Washington. It comes to Washington.
Reason #2. "Of the 100 brand-name drugs, 32 were finished in the US, while 67 were finished in countries in the European Union, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, & the UK." #Tariffs will increase the cost of your medications.

@amyklobuchar.com thank you for sponsoring a bill to repeal the import taxes! Just called and left a message for Rep Brad Finstad to vote to repeal higher taxes on imported goods.
R’s against higher taxes, right?
'NIH cuts could affect hundreds of medical studies at the Mayo Clinic and University of Minnesota'
Minnesota and 21 other states have sued the NIH over the Trump administration’s steep cuts to grants that fund medical research in the United States.
minnesotareformer.com/2025/02/10/n...
The policy starts Monday and applies to already awarded grants. The UofM received a $59.2 million grant in *December*. Republicans just defunded cancer research in MN and blew a huge hole in our state budget. This isn’t a potential future problem. It’s here, now, and devastating.
I'm currently doing research on the diseases I treat as a surgeon. My research is paid for by small grants & donations, but the services & buildings where I do my research is funded by #NIH #indirect funding.Trump’s cuts to the NIH will stop research and close labs
Similar to findings in study of surgery residents in a simulated task. Men and women performed the same but women underestimated their predicted score. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28203253/

I have been talking about your books to every skull base/rhinology surgeon I know, so maybe they are your followers?
Looking for an academic surgeon with a strong interest in skull base surgery to step into a very busy practice jobs.mayoclinic.org/job/rocheste...
Congrats are in order for my Mayo Clinic ENT colleague Dr Carlos Pinheiro Neto who is the new vice chair of ENT at NYU starting in March
Which means we are actively recruiting a new anterior skull base & rhinology surgeon at Mayo Clinic Rochester
New England resident sinus course
Rhinology Faculty at Harvard
Honored to be invited to the New England Resident Sinus course at Mass Eye & Ear at Harvard. I dig deep into the old literature to talk about the origins of sinus surgery (original Lothrop, Denkers, Caldwell Luc) and how the old ways were reinvented for endoscopic approaches
Yes, reactions to alcohol, especially wine and beer, is common with AERD, such as nasal congestion or wheezing. The mechanism isn’t completely understood. www.samterssociety.org/aerd-alcohol....
Photo of a woman in scrubs in the OR with the caption “when he told me he wanted to be a surgeon and I said "but don't you want to be a dad?" #womeninmalefields”
Woman in scrubs looking down, caption says “He walked in wearing scrubs and introduced himself as the medical student/resident doctor, I ended my phone call saying "hang on the nurse just got here"”
Woman in scrubs next to a fancy car, caption: “When he drives up in a nice car and l ask him what his wife does for a living #womeninmalefields”
Woman scrubbing at the sink, wearing scrubs, scrub cap, and mask, with caption: “asking him who he had to sleep with to get into medical school and match to residency #womeninmalefields”
The womeninmalefields trend is flipping the script on things said to and about women, including in MedSky, to highlight their absurdity.
They only like things they can control.
Yes this one feels worse. The convictions. The evidence. The condemnations and warnings from those who actually worked for him the first time.
The 2025 plan. It’s all out in the open, but people chose him anyway.
Some of the pain is on me: I let myself have hope. That made it even worse.
My “flex”, back when the bird app was a good place, was being named the top #ENT influencer on Twitter (I wasn’t trying, it’s just the algorithm). But dipping my toe back into being social on social media, hoping #OtoSky or #ENTsky grows here so we can share research & patient care & advocacy again
I felt better in general after donating locally on Give To The Max day in MN.
I know everyone is talking about Matt Gaetz but please don't miss this:
Georgia fired every single person on its maternal mortality review committee. Why? They didn't like that reporters found out that the state's ban killed two women www.propublica.org/article/geor...
It’s #GiveToTheMax day in Minnesota. Happy to donate to Channel One food bank and the Rochester Public Library, in support of a healthy and educated community
Residency applications dropped in states with abortion restrictions even for non-OB gyn programs. Residents don’t want to live or train in states where it’s not safe to get pregnant www.aamcresearchinstitute.org/our-work/dat....
Give me your examples of #microfeminism:
-using “she” as the default gender for other physicians
-vocally agreeing with another woman’s comments or suggestions at meeting
-supporting another woman who is interrupted at meetings with comments like “I’d like to hear what she was saying”
Apparently the criteria for surgeon general candidates includes leaving an ENT residency before finishing the fifth year, having a lapsed medical license, and selling supplements to boost metabolism
