Leaf Wax Hydrogen Isotopes Reflect Storm Track Position Over Western North America We analyze modern leaf waxes in near-shore marine sediments spanning a north–south transect along the coast of western North America Leaf wax hydrogen isotope values become more negative at the l...

We have a new paper out in Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology showing that the latitudinal gradient in leaf wax hydrogen isotopes over western North America reflects the mean climatological position of the storm tracks. agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1...

Attention folks in the weather, climate, disaster, wildfire, and Earth science communities: NSF has just published a new "Dear Colleague" letter inviting feedback (by Mar 13) on the proposal to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). www.nsf.gov/funding/...

The National Science Foundation sign on our Eisenhower Av building is now gone.

The NSF mural in the foyer is removed and torn off in sheets.

We were supposed to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the agency in May 2025. That never happened.

📎📜 Paper on the climatology and drivers of extreme atmospheric ridges over western North America led by my postdoc (Dr. Xiaoyu Bai). Such ridges (or high-pressure systems) are often associated with a range of surface temperature and precipitation extremes

For me it sent the letter to all 3 of my elected officials with one click and then forwarded me to the call scripts. Hope it’s the same for you!

They’re stealing from us. They are stealing from us and we have to put a stop to this. This cannot stand.

We should study this change as scientists. Monitor the intended outcomes of NSF-funded research: Discovery (probably measured by proxy via publications and by expert elicitation), training graduate students, and outreach/public-facing events. Then compare outcomes pre- and post these changes.

Boxing up the NSF at Eisenhower Av for the forced relocation. Boxes have “Details Matter” signage.

Boxing up the NSF at Eisenhower Av for the forced relocation. Boxes have “Details Matter” signage.

NSF

- Forced reorg

- POs down ~ 40% (DRP, most rotators not renewed, retirements)

- Forced move (and we have to pack and clean) to a building with no furniture, little to no conference space for panels, inadequate 🛜, …)

I personally love the boxes they gave us for packing.

I got my PhD in a geography department and the DDRIG program was crucial to funding the final push of measurements I needed for my dissertation. This sucks.

Marine heatwaves modulate food webs and carbon transport processes - Nature Communications A decade of BGC-Argo and plankton records shows North Pacific heatwaves reshape food webs and trap small particles in midwater, slowing deep-ocean carbon export. Impacts vary by event, underscoring the need for sustained ocean monitoring.

Despite congressional threat, National Academies releases new climate report Things have changed since 2009: We’re more certain about the problems.

National Academies of Science panel finds that: The EPA was right in 2009 (when it found that climate change driven by society’s emissions of greenhouse gases are endangering human health & lives), and that everything we've learned since has only made it more right.
