a group of people standing next to cows and a sign that says 2 mins ALT: a group of people standing next to cows and a sign that says 2 mins

Makes me think of this gif.

But also in physics we have the saying “like a spherical cow in a vacuum”

I need an email signature right now that just says: "I am having difficulty making decisions right now if you are only asking out of politeness then please make a choice and just tell me what to do and it will get done"

I have many thoughts I want to put down so I will try to articulate them coherently tomorrow. Because today the sun is shining and we all deserve those tasty tasty photons not just our telescope ☀️

8% acceptance rate is utterly brutal for so many of the community but there are only so many minutes in a year. 525600 moments to capture the wonder of our universe. Congratulations to all those with time for their science &use it with the knowledge that you serve the whole community 🖤 #JWSTcycle5

A second visit to Eps Ind Ab with JWST: new photometry confirms ammonia and suggests thick clouds in the exoplanet atmosphere of the closest super-Jupiter With JWST, we are directly imaging cold (~200-300K), solar-age giant exoplanets for the first time. At these temperatures many molecular features appear and water-ice clouds may condense and affect th...

Beautiful new direct imaging of the exoplanet Eps Ind Ab with the #JWST MIRI coronagraphs by Elisabeth Matthews of @mpi-astro.bsky.social et al - confirming previous detection of ammonia in its atmosphere, and suggesting the presence of water ice clouds. Great work! 🔭 arxiv.org/abs/2603.08780

Titan is also a lot of fun for scuba opportunities. Not great visibility in a lake of ethane but not unusual for a British diver (the visibility not the ethane). And the density combined with low gravity mean no bends to deal with.

Awesome congratulations on finally getting it in. Tons of hard work that will be used around the world I am sure. 🙏🥳

We are also massive gossips and can’t keep embargo secrets very well at all. Especially astronomers!

Starting this Friday, four separate #JWST programmes will be exploring physical processes in Jupiter's atmosphere and ionosphere. We're asking amateur astronomers to help provide context imaging over the next few weeks to understand how the atmosphere is changing with time. #planetaryscience

Early-career researchers are rightly worried about the road ahead, and have drafted an open letter to UKRI & #STFC, calling for a "strategic correction" to avoid irreversible loss of curiosity-driven UK research - an essential part of future discoveries, tech, & growth. bsky.app/profile/si-w...

Funding piece Modern astronomy is full of marvels. In recent years we have rejoiced in the success of the James Webb Space Telescope, and been puzzled by the surprisingly vibrant early Universe it is showing us. We...

I've updated my post on the funding crisis heading for British astronomy: docs.google.com/document/d/1.... UKRI made clear that astro and particle physics are being subject to unique cuts due to rising costs elsewhere. This looks like a deliberate decision not to fund fundamental physics. 🔭 🧪

i love Becky Chambers. re-read the wayfarer series just recently. I like the galaxy and the ground within the best I think but they are all great character pieces.

Question: Do I re-read the first two Percy Jackson’s to cleanse myself of the atrocious decisions made in the Disney+ series, or keep going through discworld for the millionth time?
I guess I could also read something new but I have a cold and need comfort reading right now.
