Happy to share the first paper from my lab! We wrote a review on bacterial plant pathogen evolution 🧫 🌱 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... @microsky.bsky.social @plantsky.bsky.social
Dan from my lab presented his work on Pseudomonas phage that has an intriguing role in virulence. #planthealth2025 #proudPI
A man giving a scientific presentation with a PowerPoint slide showing phage presence across bacteria genomes
Daniel Maddock (@michhulin.bsky.social’s group) investigates prophage carrying a key effector protein that enables Pseudomonas bacteria to infect cherry trees.
Deleting the whole prophage reduces virulence of the bacterium on the plant (leaf and woody tissue) 🍒

We’re in Hawaii! Looking forward to APS #planthealth2025. Come see Dan’s talk on Pseudomonas phages in the tree disease section on Monday! 🌺
That’s exciting! We’re on our way too. Hopefully see you there

I had the pleasure of mentoring REU student Lauren for a project this summer on P. syringae! Thanks for being part of the lab and the lovely parting gift @microsky.bsky.social @plantsky.bsky.social
Getting #ISMPMI2025 FOMO, but glad to see updates on @bsky.app 🦋. Looking forward to my first APS this year instead!
1/🚨 New preprint alert! Can mutualists and pathogens co-colonise the same living plant cell and what does that do to the plant membranes that surround these microbes?
New from the Carter Lab!
Led by @bhuwanabbot.bsky.social, we sequenced almost twice as many complete genomes as were available for the endofungal Mycetohabitans genus.
Unsurprisingly, they are a little weird, giving us insight into endosymbiotic genome changes 🧬 🦠

Our first undergraduate Brooke that joined the lab presented at @michiganstateu.bsky.social UUARF today! She cloned a transcription factor and has started to characterise its effects in Pseudomonas syringae 🌱🧫 #microsky #plantscience

The lab had a great time at @msuscifest.bsky.social today presenting Pseudomonas plant pathogens, including ice nucleation and fluorescent bacteria! 🧫🍀 @bijarniya0408.bsky.social
Had a blast visiting University of Utah! Thanks for the invitation Effie Symeonidi 🤩

Lab ready to go with FFA Open House, excited to share our research with high schoolers interested in agricultural science 🧬 🌱 @michiganstateu.bsky.social
It was great hosting @michhulin.bsky.social to hear about her lab's work on prophages in Pseudomonas syringae!
I had a wonderful visit to Penn State! Thanks for the invitation @hockettlab.bsky.social
Snow at Michigan state University
Snowy end to 2024! 🎆❄️
Andrea, Dan and Michelle on her last day in Michigan
It was wonderful to have @vadillodieguez.bsky.social join my lab for a few months! Proud of all you have achieved - which was a huge amount in just 3 months! 🤩 Thanks for @bspp.bsky.social funding 🌱🧬 #womaninstem

First snow! ❄️☃️
Gave one of the last lectures in my MPMI 🌱 class today, specifically on applications of molecular plant pathology. It was fun to nerd out about how far technologies have come in the last few years 🤩🧬. Such an exciting time to be working/studying!
We have a fully funded 4-year PhD studenship available that builds on parts of this pre-print:
