4/ Those suffering from IBS-C had more trouble focusing and felt more self-conscious than those struggling with IBS-D. On the other hand, those dealing with IBS-D were more likely to avoid bathroomless spots, making plans, leaving their home, and travelling.
3/ The 1885 responders who were employed or in school stated that IBS symptoms affected their productivity an average of 8.0 days out of the month and IBS caused them to miss about 1.5 days of work/school per month.
More than half of the people surveyed said they were bothered by their symptoms.
2/ The results from a survey that aimed to explore the attitudes of IBS sufferers and to better understand their experiences living with IBS was published in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 2019.

1/ April is #IBS Awareness Month
Irritable bowel syndrome is associated with decreased quality of life in many sufferers. Existing research has pointed out that IBS can result in behavioral avoidance or inability to participate in daily activities.
3/ 🌱 The fear of “chemicals” and how it can affect the way we think about food and gut health.
🌱 How we can determine if a gut health product is evidence-based or just marketing.
🎧 Full episode comes out soon. Stay tuned!
2/ Together, we’re unpacking:
🌱 What people really mean by “natural” (and why that can be misleading).
🌱 Are probiotics and herbal gut supplements always beneficial?
🌱 How supplements can interact with medications.
1/ “Natural” doesn’t always mean safer or better for gut health. In this episode, I’m joined by clinical pharmacist and fellow Nerdy Girl @daphneberryhill.bsky.social, RPh for a thoughtful conversation about gut health trends we see on social media.

Olive oil and bone broth: Do viral gut health foods actually work?
"...behind the viral foods, scientists say the reality is more complicated - especially as it's a growing field with new evidence emerging almost every day."

4/ -Sudden but persistent changes in your bowel movements (diarrhea, constipation or narrowing of the stool).
-A feeling that you need to have a bowel movement, which is not relieved by doing so.
*These symptoms don't always mean cancer, but they should be checked.
3/ When it comes to colorectal cancer, don’t ignore these red flag signs:
-Sudden unintentional weight loss.
-Rectal bleeding.
-Dark stool or blood in the stool.
-Abdominal pain or cramping.
-Weakness, fatigue or anemia.
2/ ✅ Quality of life during and after treatment improves.
✅ In some cases, removing polyps during a screening procedure can prevent cancer entirely.
✅ Healthcare costs are typically lower
1/ The power of screening & early detection in colorectal cancer:
✅ Early-stage cancers are often easier to treat & treatment can more effective.
✅ Early-stage cancers have higher survival rates.

4/ IT has been observed that eating a big or very fatty meal or drinking a lot of cold liquids too quickly can make the gastrocolic reflex more pronounced in IBS patients.
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK549...
3/ If you suffer from IBS, you may have noticed your symptoms are affected right after you have a meal. Do you feel like you need to poop right after you eat? Research shows that people with IBS tend to have a heightened gastrocolic reflex so their intestines contract more forcefully when they eat.
2/ The intensity and timing of the gastrocolic reflex can vary from person to person, and some individuals may experience it more strongly or immediately after eating.
1/ The gastrocolic reflex is a natural response in your body that happens when you eat. It makes your colon start moving waste to make room for the new food in your stomach. This can make you feel like you need to have a bowel movement shortly after a meal.

“The phrase ‘Sugar feeds cancer’ is a dangerous statement,” says Stanford Medicine oncology dietitian Erika Connor. “It switches people’s anxiety on and sets them up for misinformation and panic.”

This conversation is all about bringing nuance to a topic that is often oversimplified online, and helping people better understand what the science really says about sugar, cancer, and nutrition.

🌱Love Plants. Season 5, Episode 2
In this episode I chat with board certified oncology dietitian Dr. Krystle Zuniga about one common and confusing claim in nutrition: the idea that “sugar feeds cancer.”
-Cramping or abdominal pain
- Weakness, fatigue or low iron levels (anemia)
-Unintentional weight loss
Colorectal cancer symptoms can imitate symptoms in IBS. Always consult your healthcare professional to discuss your symptoms and rule out serious disease.

-A feeling that you need to go have a bowel movement but then you are not relieved by doing so
-Bleeding from the rectum
-Dark-colored stool
Early colorectal cancer often has no symptoms. That’s why preventative screening is extremely important!
As a tumor grows, it can lead to serious symptoms that should never be ignored. These are:
-A persistent change in bowel habits such as constipation, diarrhea or narrowing of the stool.
Recently, we got a flood of questions about acemannan, a supplement gaining traction in wellness spaces. It checks every box. So, it’s worth walking through — both for the specific claims, and because once you recognize this pattern, you’ll see it everywhere. Let’s discuss…
"Can you remember a time when you shared something that you later found out was not true or trustworthy?" Dean Megan L. Ranney, MD, MPH, @meganranney.bsky.social posed that question in her opening remarks at a conference about rebuilding trust in public health @yalesph.bsky.social. 👇
"The ISAPP panel evaluated the term in the context of the central role of the GIt in health and overall well-being & proposed a definition of gut health as “a state of normal gastrointestinal function without active gastrointestinal disease & gut-related symptoms that affect quality of life”.
