"The Dispossessed has matured my political views, reshaped my values, and changed my life. Reading it showed me how to confront a political landscape increasingly hostile to productive dialogue." —Alec del Pino Gil-Casares in The Harvard Political Review

McCarthy had a big impact on me after meeting him in college-I’ll do my best to carry on his teachings.

A table with books and a pink chair shaped like a hand.
A book display that reads “need a hand” with books including a teacher sitting in a hand chair reading the book.
“Need A Hand?”. Someone donated this funky hand chair to our library this year. I had teachers sit in it and share a recommendation. I put the photo in the book so students could see who recommended it.
I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

If you feel weird about being festive when the world's like this, we wrote a book for you about celebrating Christmas under a dictator.
It wasn't a religious holiday in the days of curfew in Korea, it was an act of resistance.
Here's an antifascist Christmas carol from No Rules Tonight.
“A book ban is un-American for this simplest reason: it takes a decision that belongs in the private space that exists between a person and their conscience and turns it into a public act of control.”

You can very clearly see why someone whose job it is to protect war criminals would need this pulled from the airwaves: It’s visible proof the Trump administration is operating concentration camps.
Our freedom to read is mutually entwined with all others-as it is eroded so too are our other fundamental freedoms.
Walmart & Amazon should be forced to pay livable wages & provide health insurance (they often don't give their workers enough hours to qualify for health insurance which lowers their cost & increases profit because they are greedy assholes & our entire capitalist system is built for their benefit.
Everyone knows you can save money on books by checking them out at the library instead of buying them. But did you know that libraries can help you save on other things too?
Thanks, Charles, for letting me see my book on display at AASL! I'm overjoyed!
I draw antifascist barnyard animals for book pics, so here's a normal barnyard frog.

I’ve been waiting for my pre-order but I found this copy of Good Old-Fashioned Korean Spirit by Kim Hyun Sook and @ryanestrada.com at #AASL The publisher had an ARC- now I have some plane reading and a new book to talk up with students. (Fingers crossed the color editor is ready at home🤣)
What a great way to start my first AASL Conference! #AASL25
The energy of this Hank Green video raging against Sora (and GenAI in general) should be familiar to anyone who has mentioned AI anywhere near me in recent memory
tl;dr - there is no fucking way this technology should be in the hands of the mfers in charge of these companies, its a dangerous scam
Still one of the best #BannedBooksWeek action steps I have ever taken. What actionable steps did you take this year? #libsky #edusky
People usually share only the funny stuff from The Daily Show- but please watch this clip of John and Tristan discuss the insane AI path we are on.
Screenshot from The Guardian with the headline "Moms For Liberty Outreach Leader exposed as registered sex offender." Phillip Fisher Jr, who served three years in prison, volunteered at Philadelphia summit for rightwing parental rights group A Philadelphia-based outreach leader for Moms for Liberty – the conservative parental rights group that is pushing to exclude discussion of gender and diversity from school curricula – has been exposed as a registered sex offender. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Phillip Fisher Jr – a pastor and local Republican ward leader who volunteered at Moms for Liberty’s national summit in Philadelphia this year – pleaded guilty in 2012 to a charge of aggravated sexual abuse involving a 14-year-old boy when he was 25 and living in Chicago.
Book banners always seem confused about how we can call something a ban if the books are still available elsewhere.
I'll put this in a way they'll understand.
When your outreach leader was barred from going within 2500 feet of a playground?
Still a ban even though they sell slides on Amazon.
🎶 Take a look, it's in a book 🎶

“I know day-to-day life can take a toll, but we must not allow ourselves to fall into despair. If we do not allow ourselves to be divided up by Trump and his oligarch allies, we can change the path we are on.
The choice is clear. Let’s stand together for democracy and justice.”
Pause your doomscrolling and listen to this story.
A bookshelf with Manga titles stored in a small clear plastic bin.
You can fit about 20+\-standard tankobon in one of these bathroom style bins from Target - I can also fit in a small stand to keep things from falling over. They are 12x6x4 and were a few $ ea.
A photo of two books on display in a school library. One X-men and one Baby-sitters club.
Why it’s great to be a middle level librarian reason #1023- I can display both a classic X-Men and a new Baby-sitters Club and they will both be gone by end of day.
What Sept. 11 teaches us about death and resurrection.
