Harrowing news as journalist Amal Khalil has been killed by Israel in a strike on Tayri in south Lebanon in violation of the ceasefire. Israeli forces prevented the Red Cross from rescuing her.

This on the eve of Israel-Lebanon talks tells you everything you need to know.

I have curated this year's @publiclaw.bsky.social Special Analysis section "The Public Order Act 1986 at Forty", with six excellent contributions which together, I/we hope, offer an insight into the rich tapestry of contemporary protest law and policing in the UK, through that historical lens.

Reuters, New York Times Top List of Fossil Fuel Industry’s Favorite Media Partners Taking a hard look at the media industry’s relationship with the fossil fuel industry.

So uhhhh Reuters quietly shitcanned its climate team right around the same time WaPo did. Except maybe even more cowardly because they kept it under wraps. Not a great look given the abundance of oil money they take in between sponsored content and events.

If the National Party cares so much about productivity, they'd do something about the lost productivity of climate change disruptions. Very hard to be "productive" with school and kindy closed. But that would require doing something about fossil fuelled capitalism and, well ....

You know who turns up, every single time we have yet another extreme climate event?

Not the government.

Māori.

Every single time.

And this govt just keeps kicking them in the teeth?

Nope. Enough. #OneTermGovernment #nzpol #NZ

If David Seymour is so concerned about kids being in school he should do something about climate change. Our kid is one term + two days into school. The only two days of school he has missed has been because of weather closures. But we know that’s not what he actually cares about …

The report says that "Small Advanced Economies" allocate 13% of research funding to society, education, politics etc. NZ allocates 3% and the PMSITAC recommend cutting it to 1%.

Israel has pushed ground forces into multiple areas of southern Lebanon

They've displaced huge numbers of civilians...

Yet it barely registers.

Russia did the same in Ukraine and the world responded with sanctions, outrage and coordinated pressure

The double standards are UNFORGIVABLE.

Our media need to be very explicit each time Israel trots out these lies - there is no evidence that the journalists they assassinate are working for these groups. They have directly targeted dozens and dozens of journalists with no accountability whatsoever

Nothing for beneficiaries in the fuel relief package because they don't need to "get to and from work each day". Apparently they also don't need to eat, get their kids to school or a playground, aren't allowed to leave their homes for joy, connection. Apparently beneficiaries just shouldn't live.

"Palo Alto has deep links to the Israeli government... A partnership with a firm that is aiding such a state, and now waging war on its neighbours, would seem to be entirely at odds with the university’s mandated role as critic and conscience of society."
