Wow. So tempted. This will keep me awake tonight.
It is painful to be an historian these days.
Picture of a wet black mostly Border Collie looking up at the camera while standing on a grassy area near a shoreline.
My dog Dash smiles and is always handsome.
Public and university libraries might offer access to the BNA. Also, my understanding is if you are a British citizen (or hold a work visa), you can get a British Library reader card and access their archives online. A local FamilySearch location might be an alternative.
These deplorables used to just work their jobs and keep their stupid opinions to themselves or annoy family and coworkers with them while voting--if they bothered to--for whoever seemed equally stupid. Now, they have the internet to feed their lunacy and social media to broadcast their nonsense.
People generally not knowing shit any more is even more alarming.
Picture of me in a flight suit and jacket, wearing sunglasses, with a Harvard aircraft in the background.
#OTD 50 years ago, I flew solo (in a Piper Cherokee) for the first time. I had to side slip into my final approach after informed that an airliner was on path for the runway.
(That's a Harvard in the background, while filming a documentary. I look a bit full of myself, but those were good times.)
Picture of a vintage loudhailer.
Photo of a painted figure of a Royal Navy officer wearing a duffle coat and peaked cap while speaking into a loudhailer.
@nickhewitt4.bsky.social I learned today that the archive I downloaded before x'ing my X account does not include replies. All I have is my appeal for info about the type of loudhailer in a figure of the pier master at Dunkirk. You were on a thread in May 2022. Possibly a MIMCo?
How about 'Operation Insane Operation'? It has a Catch-22 vibe to it and captures the insanity of such a mission.
@lmbd1418.bsky.social Lots of mule talk in this bio page for Charles Stadden, in case you haven't found it already (my interest in him relates to his commemorative figure of the pier master at Dunkirk in 1940): www.acstadden.co.uk/c-c-stadden
I remember watching that fight. It was epic. Chuvalo was sensational while Ali, although he won on points, looked humbled. I don't like boxing, but that was a memorable event.
Environment Canada weather forecast for Ottawa, Ontario, 29 Mar to 4 Apr, 2026. A mix of warm and inclement weather with periods of rain, freezing rain, and possible flurries.
Our crazy weather in #Ottawa.
Homemade fish'n'chips with a Guinness here. Good times.
The last thing you need right now, if legit.
I'm intrigued by this as a possible sideline here (far removed from your turf). I'd be interested to know how you price your service.
Also, I hope this means the dreaded lurgy has passed. (And thank you for introducing me to the hitherto unknown to me -- and unwanted -- condition). Best wishes.
Enjoyed your Ted Talk about this important matter. Five stars.
I wanted to watch One Battle After Another but read it's 2 hrs and 41 minutes long. Why does any movie need to be that long if it's not Lawrence of Arabia? I have to pee every 2 hrs and 40 minutes. I don't want to miss the ending.
No. He is the worst of everything. He attracts like-minded vile minds. And together, they are making the rest of us pay for their atrocities, corruption, egoism, and stupidity.
Sound familiar? (Asking for someone from the 1930s.)
Well done, all.
So, after those cuts β some of them quite deep β who, if anyone, is getting more?
Are you sure? Maybe it was last week, or the week before. Or the week before that. Maybe last month or a couple of decades ago. Possibly tomorrow or the day after.
They are determined and will get it right eventually.
The more I think about this, the more it bothers me. I understand the historical connection in America, but it's not relevant to the US today. The protest should be about the abuse of presidential power for gangster fascist ends.
Indeed. Sometimes they make us cringe but on the whole worth the presence on our currency and in courts of law. Most important is that we have a parliamentary democracy. No kings? How about no presidents with assumed absolute power?
I'm reading a post by @lockettwill.bsky.social about how AI will destroy the economy and the first thought that came to me was of Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump.
Except we're the buffalo now.
The conventional narrative about the east mole has never been investigated and when it is it is deeply flawed. It was not βa flimsy wooden structureβ never intended to be used as it was in 1940 (irrelevant), and thus the decision to use the mole was a brilliant improvisation. Bollocks, all of it.
Will do. I'm working on it now. But there won't be much about those little ships in it. It's all about the mole and what happened there, a story that hasn't been told.
If that doesn't work, send it to me and, yes, we're good.
