Daughter calls for investigation into death of man after police contact at Bristol protest Exclusive: Retired NHS worker Nicholas Stone died after becoming unwell at protest against far-right Bristol Patriots

Antifascists like me kept saying, for a year and change, that Avon & Somerset Police's political decisions and use of force to enable Bristol Patriots would end up with someone dead. Well, the cops got what they wanted.

Even if you think you can separate the art from the artist, she disagrees and you're funding the erasure of my rights, even if you support my rights, any time you buy anything Harry Potter

It is clear that many cis people are not aware just how up to her neck Rowling is in funding and driving anti trans sentiment in the UK.

She's not just a person with a vile opinion.

Hard agree. The fact that Phillipson *laughed* when asked in an interview about the student loan crisis but has acted to force universities to platform transphobes/fascists without debate, suggests Labour has a particular agenda, one that shows no interest in the real problems of most students.

Starmer trusted his first-choice chief of staff, Sue Gray, to have prepared an oven-ready plan for power, which Labour would roll out the day after winning the election. It turned out no such plan existed.
Starmer then replaced Gray with his election mastermind McSweeney, who had been serving in a political director role. McSweeney was given the power to provide political input on Starmer's behalf into a huge swathe of policy decisions across government and, for a time, things improved.

โ€œStarmer assumed Gray had a super-secret plan for governing but she didnโ€™t so they did nothingโ€ is such a wild line, and the hacks seem so uninterested in learning more about this astonishing, farcical setup

A black and grey splatter pattern record sits on the record player. In front is the grey album sleeve for Into Oblivion which looks like a collection of wires plugged into a multi sided power source.

Constantly reminded of this Ted Chiang passage on capitalism, technology and progress from the New Yorker whenever I see the tech โ€œeliteโ€ snowflaking about criticism.

strange these op-eds about women being too angry have all come out the last few days when during the same time there's also been a massive investigation published on an online rape academy with millions of viewers a month and none of them have bothered to even cover it, even as news

This a great opportunity to make impact for a talented big tech campaigner. If you know someone it could fit, please share. Thanks! ๐Ÿ‘‡

I've been leaked a letter from the Telegraph's new owners.

It's now mandatory for the Telegraph's journalists to support Israel.

And their new owner's record is deeply disturbing ๐Ÿ‘‡

The real scandal of the asylum system is the cruelty & incompetence which 1000s of people endure every day but which rarely gets spotlighted at the top of the BBC News site.

Dan here nails much of what makes me uncomfortable about the BBCโ€™s โ€œfake gay refugeesโ€ story but hereโ€™s a few more points 1/

The reason people are so passionate about their football teams is because - without the tribalism - football is a boring sport.

So much to love, but I think this quote is important

Tech bosses have no interests other than concentrating political power and wealth in their own hands

Labour and Tories have been negligent to beg them to put their tools at the heart of government

400 dead so far, over 1000 injured, dozens and dozens missing. This is one hour into the massacre. I have no idea what the death toll will be in the end. Also, they have announced โ€œanother waveโ€ of attacks coming

My highlights from Takedown Festival were Monochrome, Devere, and INME.

Managed to listen to two (maybe one and a half) songs from PRESIDENT before making a baffled exit. #MetalSky

Today the two-child limit is gone. Parents have told us what this will mean for their kids:

- A first-ever birthday party for a 10-year-old
- Better quality food
- Clothes that aren't completely worn out
- Going on the school trip without getting into debt
- A new mattress
- Swimming lessons

Motability drivers 'horrified' by compulsory black boxes The boxes will monitor driving habits, such as speed and braking, and will provide a weekly rating.

There's two things about this piece - the first, obviously, is that is obviously discriminatory and whoever came up with the idea of spying on young disabled people and taking their independence away based on "infractions" should be ashamed www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

"In reality, he was already prime minister" would haunt me for the rest of my waking life.

It would actually be better if AI had written it than to admit I made this mistake.

The Prime Minister's threats of removing training places are bad for doctors and bad patients.

These threats are not a credible way to end this dispute. We're in talks with government today to reach a deal that doctors can support, and that's good for patients, to avoid strikes.

If Labour were serious about fixing the NHS then instead of manipulating waiting lists by knocking people off before their treatment is complete and rationing who gets referred they would be focused relentlessly on increasing NHS capacity through training staff not using it as a bargaining chip

Strikes me as an absurd threat, either we need the 4000 new training places or we donโ€™t
