All set up and ready for day 1 of the Cambridge Maths hub for the subject knowledge for TAs. Looking forward to meeting our 24 keen TAs to do some maths! @ncetm.bsky.social

Bar model. Number line. Ratio table (although I don’t know if that last one counts since it’s more an organisation of thought than a model imo)

I’d forgotten all about this one! Thank you for reminding me of it. We might have to play this in a week or so to see how good they still are…

Find the primes! Find the primes!

In #mathstoday year 8 improved their fluency recognising primes (and tested their patience) with maths bots find the prime game

Teacher of Mathematics, Cambridgeshire - Tes Jobs Comberton Village College, United Kingdom

In #mathstoday (yesterday) we put out a job advert for January start. I know I’m biased but it really is a great place to work that gives you lots of freedom to develop into the teacher you want to be. Please share with those you know in the Cambridge area… www.tes.com/jobs/vacancy...

Has anyone got any experience offering functional skills in year 10 or Jan of yr 11 as a stepping stone to GCSE? Something I’m thinking about considering. Currently do L1 number and measure award in yr 11 and assessing if this is still the right choice #UKMathsChat

Who knew it was such an emotive part of maths!

Overheard in #mathstoday (without hint of sarcasm) “I genuinely think the grid method [for factorising quadratics] will save my life one day”

Me too!! The moment one boy shouted ‘omg Miss look what happens when a (our coeff of x^2) is negative’ was possibly the highlight of my year so far. As if he’d been the first person ever to notice 😅 wouldn’t be the same without Desmos!

In #mathstoday year 10 got to play with desmos and some dynamic graphing to explore quadratics while year 9 got to play with some double sided counters and begin their journey with negative numbers. It was a fun teaching day!

This (sadly) is not surprising. Equally sadly is that I’m sure a lot isnt reported and just accepted. If I could protect my team from one thing it would be this..

I didn’t teach any #mathstoday but did get to talk to some great maths teachers at my first PD lead session

They cared less today 😂 one step at a time though!

In #mathstoday I think I’ve finally started to convince my year 10 group that there is just as much worth in understanding the ‘why’ behind the maths as just ‘doing’

This is fun! Bluesky now has over 10 million users, and I was #6,209,991!

Gutted I can’t join this year but can’t wait for the member of my team who is to come back and share

Yes! I definitely think it’s the people that make it so great 🤩

One of the best bits of my job is working with the maths hub!

Controversial opinion but I feel quite strongly if they’ve not got fluent knowledge of them by now we should focus on teaching them methods of quickly working them out instead. Don’t know 6x7? That’s ok because you might know 5x7 type thing. (All things I’ve found are patronising too!)

This is an odd question.. how big is the font?? I can’t read small font things in term time 😅

I’m not usually a big text book fan but I do quite like the mosaic maths book 1 for LPA. I tend to leave as cover work quite often rather than using in my own lessons but it builds up nicely

Haha I say this so much someone bought me a mug with it on last year 😅

Getting ready to set some new (school) year resolutions. This is something I do every year - does anyone else??
First on this years list, find a better organisation system than “can you send that to me in an email?” when staff speak to me! #ukmathschat

The 2024 AMSP New to A level Maths Summer School has now finished. I'm shattered but it has been such a privilege to work with an amazing group of teachers this week. Your students are lucky to be taught by such dedicated professionals. You're all awesome!

Had a really great week and learnt so much. Exhausted now but can’t wait to put it in to practice. Thank you!

Spending so much time with you on the TA work group clearly rubbed off on me this year when I finally gave in to ALevel teaching 😂

1 more day of the new to teaching #ALevelMaths summer school to go. 3 days in and I’m not ‘team stats’ yet but I am firmly ‘team make connections between *everything*’
