💔 #SickleCell disease is the most clear example of how the healthcare system fails patients of color.
It’s unethical and disgusting for this to happen, and they’ll look you in the eye and tell you it’s not happening.
But the data tells a different story…
I joined @bsky.app just in time to follow the great @drzsicklecell.bsky.social and to thank him for his one going commitment to the #SickleCell community. Join the conversation at the 4th Annual Sickle Cell Caregiver Summit. Happening now www.scdcaregivers.org/2024summit
Arguably, the greatest advance in healthcare in the past 100 years was the widespread vaccination of children.
Tell them we are sorry for being bad neighbors.
HPV is contagious & is associated with
>90% cervical & anal cancer
70% vaginal & vulvar cancer
60-70% oropharyngeal cancer
60% penile cancer
Over 46,000 HPV associated cancers occur each year in the US alone.
But the good news is
✨Vaccination Works✨

⬇️ there’s a patient with #SickleCell disease in an ER right now who is not being believed that they are in pain.

We had a great talk at our weekly #sicklecell meeting by one of our #socialworkers on trauma-informed care. I love this powerful African proverb she shared. Support and stability are crucial
#SickleCell disease is more than anemia and pain - it is a disease of premature organ failure and death. It causes unpredictable suffering in one of the most vulnerable populations in the United States. #racism #disparities #healthcare

When a patient living with #SickleCell disease hits the ER with pain, they should get pain meds IMMEDIATELY. A hefty first dose of pain meds can result in better outcomes.
They do not need your narrative, suspicion or discrimination.
They need your help. Be a champion for them.
Time for another heme #skeetorial #Medsky
Let’s talk about Racism in medicine.
Sadly, sickle cell disease (SCD) highlights this issue all too well.
