15% of fossil fuels extracted each year are used to make fertiliser, run farms, process foods and transport them. In a very real sense our food is made from oil and gas.
We are about to feel a very painful food shock.

No 5. Energy credits? Why?...if there is such a surplus, why just hand the money directly over to energy companies, why not invest directly in private solar and public renewables. Energy credits is lost money.
I have other thoughts but that's enough.

Bloody brilliant
The Irish government is doing more to house computers than it is to house people, and is somehow making less money from it.

We simply, as a species, have to band together and and ensure that anyone who wears these glasses is looked upon as a desperate predatory nonce. It should be considered as weird as walking down the street wearing a Fleshlight.
The meta glasses have no socially justifiable purpose to exist. They only exist for Mark Zuckerberg's purposes and they can only sell outside of a novelty capacity to people who want to use them for socially hostile purposes.

With a strong El Nino forecast to develop from the summer, perhaps a 'Super El Nino' - there is concern that the associated anomalously warm sea temperatures in the tropical Pacific will lead global temperature increases as much as 1.7c above pre-industrial levels.

So a single solar panel produces about *100 times more useful energy* than a tank of petrol.
Given idiocy of last week from #fuelprotest and Govt (delay, caving) this from @hannahdaly.ie is worth reposting.
Straits are still closed, no new fuel is available, what will we do next?
(Hint drive less, turn off heat etc).

They could have paid for cavity insulation for three hundred thousand homes. Three. Hundred. Thousand. To reduce the energy costs for those homes for DECADES.

It's not just that Orbán losing inspires hope in other competitive-autocratic countries ruled by right-wing nationalist authoritarians. It's that his loss materially changes things in those other countries, because he's been operating as a headquarters and funding source...

Due to ongoing disruptions, the State Examinations Commission (SEC) has deferred the practical examinations scheduled for Monday, 13 April only for Leaving Certificate Music and Junior Cycle Home Economics.
Not just solar, insulation etc, there's a whole cohort of people who won't qualify for free upgrades from government and will never have the funds to pay for these upgrades. The fact we look likely to to miss all the EU targets on carbon makes it more sensible.
Half a billion euro for 10c off each litre of petrol and diesel for drivers and all the rest on private business. No grants to make evs or hybrid cars affordable for people, no increase in grants for home insulation to save on heating oil, no reduction in the price of home heating oil.
No increase in grants for solar or even something radical like interest free loans for solar, more sticking plasters. They couldn't be inventive it they feckin tried
