From my point of view, this is essentially @acm.org itself perpetrating a massive ethics violation. I explicitly do not consent to having my work misrepresented by systems that are actively harmful to and complicit in the erasure of the very perspectives that my work is dedicated to representing.
Just noticed this today. Why would I want people to listen to an unverified AI generated podcast (mis)representing my work? Why spend the time to write a paper if ACM encourages people to listen to an AI generated podcast instead? Is there any way to even contest the content if there is an error??
Apparently there is *no way for authors to opt out of AI generated podcasts* displayed prominently on the ACM digital library publication page. #chi2026
Another great study by @cathwieczorek.bsky.social et al., connecting two ethnographic cases to develop a framework of temporal arrangements - "patterned ways infrastructures shape and allocate time, producing unequal demands" - that will be very useful in HCI! dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/... #chi2026
As the daughter of a cancer survivor who went through radiation, the partner of a physician, an educator, and a sociotechnical researcher who loves long-term in-situ work, really appreciating @upolehsan.bsky.social presentation and can't wait to read the paper! #chi2026 dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/...
I see so many AI podcasts on critical work where I suspect authors would not want that.
Do #CHI2026 authors that had an AI podcast made of their paper on the ACM Digital Library have any way to have it removed? Are they aware their work has been used in this way?
Many, many brave people are fighting to stop this, and also—our collective failure to stop it from getting this far will haunt us for the rest of our lives.
I should have tagged the above with #chi2026
Great study by @christinehead.bsky.social & colleagues about data resistance- the choices direct social service workers make in their documentation in order to protect the people they work with dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/...

All but three (!) of the 1,651 refugees admitted into the United States in the three most recent months we have data are white South Africans.
For comparison, in 2024, the U.S. admitted 100,060 refugees. It's an explicit white supremacist project.

This is an absolute scandal; the United States government is deliberately consolidating all deportation cases of an ethnic minority that the President has called "garbage" in front of a handpicked group of judges and with dramatically accelerated timeline.
A lawsuit was filed yesterday against it.
Can't wait to read this!
Because of the National driver register, since their licenses are suspended, trans folks cannot move to another state and get a new license until they remove the suspension on their existing Kansas license.
They can't even escape this by moving to another state.
On Nov. 16, a mental health counselor recorded in Kamilla’s medical records that her mother reported the girl had lost her appetite after being “served food that contained worms.” A week later, the couple said, children were told to gather in the gym for what they believed would be a Thanksgiving celebration. Excitement spread as families saw tables set with turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, they said. The children waited expectantly. But when a parent asked when the celebration would begin, Oksana said, staff told them the holiday meal was for employees, not detainees. The children, she said, watched despondently as the feast was packed away.
On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.
The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.
But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

Drugs are the primary boogeyman used to justify imperial intervention in Latin America. When academics and activists like myself talk about legalizing drugs, it's not only to keep drug users safe from the toxic supply (which is reason enough), it's about geopolitical stability. It affects YOU
There’s a funny Politico story showing that the latest polling on AI shows 80-20 in favor of heavy regulations, an absolute slam dunk platform, but Dems are worried about not winning back mask-off tech CEO donors

Revisiting this now that I have a moment to reflect, and I'm so pleased with how this article turned out, esp the ways we were able to connect w/ work by @allisonpugh.bsky.social @jessicacalarco.com @dmgreene.bsky.social & so many other scholars who've had such a profound influence on my research.
In the US, we're only encouraged to "think of the children" when doing so serves capitalist ends.
damn. I just searched and the piece I wrote for them years ago about domestic violence and Title IX is gone
