Beecham et al. recently led an IBDGC study showing that higher African ancestry in a Hispanic IBD cohort is linked to greater risk of penetrating Crohn’s disease, perianal disease, and IBD‑related surgery, and identified ancestry‑specific genetic signals at key IBD loci.

Our study links a loss-of-function variant in CFB to increased pCD risk. This mutation disrupts complement cleavage + phagocytosis, revealing a new immune mechanism in pCD pathogenesis.
