Today at @mbe-lab.bsky.social we celebrate the end of data collection for our Berlin side of the INTACT project, a collaboration with ACE2Lab @alexgalvezpol.bsky.social & Lucas
48 participants, ca. 72hr of ECG/PPG/RESP recording later🫀🫁 thanks to the amazing help of Mascha & Aileen!
Data analysis 🔜
With @aleksanpi.bsky.social @toninfrc.bsky.social @michaelgaebler.com & L. Okruszek
📣 New preprint out from the lab!
We introduce emotional bandwidth: how much of your emotional state space you move through daily. Wider negative emotional bandwidth predicted more depressive symptoms, even beyond standard affect metrics, and linked to loneliness via depression.

Proud to share that Stefan Weinhardt (not on Bluesky) actually won a poster award at #MBBS2026 #MindBrainBody, congrats Stefan!🥳 Keep an eye on his work :)

Very excited to present my poster on the transition dynamics of attention later today at #MindBrainBody #MBBS2026 #MBB And even more excited to see my students presents theirs, addressing different questions raised by this framework (see below) :)
Methods of literature analysis
Growth of interoception papers
Sixun Hou (Cambridge) presenting a data-driven literature analysis of #interoception & related concepts finding „exponential growth“ & a focus on the heart 😊
Good discussion about whether interoception is necessarily conscious & how to split the term up (carving nature at novel joints?)

Finally, we introduce the interoceptive flexibility task, capturing dynamical transitions toward interoceptive attention. It is well-established that "regular" attentional transitions carry a performance cost, but this remains open for interoceptive flexibility [3/3]

Following this, we investigate how attentional transitions are shaped by bodily rhythms 🧠🫀🫁 Using behaviour, pupillometry, ECG, and respiration, we uncover the interoceptive and neuromodulatory influences that push and pull attention within this state space [2/3]

Our attention focus regularly shifts between different states: external vs. internal, on- vs. off-task. We integrate them in a novel state space and show distinct dynamical transitions to off-task attention during external vs. internal attention task [1/3]

Perceptual accuracy varies across cardiac & respiratory phases - but is this adaptive? Using pulse transit time (ECG -> PPG) as a non-invasive proxy for beat-to-beat blood pressure changes, we probe vascular contributions to active visual perception 🫀🖐️👀
