Bookshop.org: Buy books online. Support local bookstores. A better way to buy books online. Every purchase financially supports local independent bookstores.

Sorry I will continue to purchase books from bookshop.org at full price to support stores and authors. I realize I am lucky that way.

This shot of #gas prices from May 2004 hasn't aged so well but the message is familiar.

I made a comment on a @guygavrielkay.bsky.social (might make a good interview on alt history?) post on this same topic that if you could covert the energy consumed in a typical AI datacenter into food calories (Star Trek!) then you could feed over a million people a day.

I hate to be pedantic but a typical current high end datacenter uses ~2.4 GWh/day. Converted to kcal (food calories) that's about 2.065 billion kcal/day. Assuming we need about 2000 kcal/day to live the food equivalent per day of one single AI datacenter could "feed" ~1.03 million people per day.

Reminds me of how these are so very different:
- $#!% out of luck
- lucky $#!%

Holy... cow. This is atrocious. I worked there in the late 90s and have such fond memories walking backstage and driving the singers to and from rehearsals. His actions and intentions feel like sacrilege on so many levels, for myself and the country.

A few years ago, Bill Nye the science guy debated creationist Ken Ham about evolution. The last question was "what would change your mind?"

Bill Nye said "Evidence."

Ken Ham said "Nothing can possibly change my mind about this."

I think about that a lot.

Has this administration asked local (already overly equipped with military gear) police to "do their jobs" enforcing the law the NatGuard is being sent in for? Has this administration demonstrated a legal rationale for sending in NatGuard like insurrection? If no, I don't understand why the debate.

We no longer live in a country with three branches of government (Legislative, Executive, Judicial). We live in a country with two parties (Democrats, Republicans, and FU if you're neither)

This is bad on so many levels.

Strump want to "pacify" San Francisco next, justifying sending in the troops with the infamous Insurrection Act. Yet there is no rebellion against government here. #SF
