The land that now forms our little island was almost right on the equator, and nowhere near the ocean. It only became beachfront property when Pangea began to split up and the Atlantic Ocean formed. This area was inhabited by reptiles, early relatives of mammals, and arthropods.

The fossil collection included tetrapod footprints, invertebrate trackways, fossilized leaves and wood, and a few bones. During the Permian, what is now PEI was part of the supercontinent Pangea. #Paleontology

Fossils from PEI that were shown at Fossil Day in the Charlottetown library on Saturday. AFAIK they are all from the Permian period (if any are from earlier or later than that, please correct me), making them older than the first dinosaurs. They are also older than flowers and grass. #Fossils
