Risso's dolphins are easily distinguished from other dolphins by their heavily scarred bodies. These scars are a result of the dolphins' rough social behavior, as well as their encounters with prey such as squid and octopuses. Just like human fingerprints, each Risso's dolphin's scars are unique.

A vintage studio portrait photograph captures Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić (1874 – 1938), the acclaimed Croatian writer widely regarded as the “Croatian Hans Christian Andersen.” Shown in a three-quarter view from the shoulders up, she gazes directly at the viewer with a serious, intelligent expression—lips closed, eyes steady and thoughtful—conveying quiet dignity and literary depth. She wears an elaborate, large dark hat trimmed with feathers and a wide brim edged in decorative braid, paired with an elegant high-necked white lace blouse and a dark, ornately patterned jacket or dress featuring intricate brocade or embroidery. A necklace adorns her neck. The soft, neutral studio background keeps the focus entirely on her poised figure. The intimate composition and formal pose evoke a mood of refined intellect and early-20th-century elegance. Brlić-Mažuranić is best remembered for her beloved children’s books and fairy tales, especially the 1913 classic The Brave Adventures of Lapitch, which became a cornerstone of Croatian children’s literature and was translated into many languages. Nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature twice (1928 and 1931), she elevated Croatian storytelling on the world stage while championing imagination, courage, and moral values for young readers. This image stands as a powerful historical testament to one of Croatia’s most important literary voices.
