Traditionally power rankings publish on Mondays in most sports. That’s also an indication of the new week in the WNBA. So the Valks won in week 2 not week 1. So rankings reflecting that win will be in the week 2 rankings.

I wasn’t annoyed. But I still think it’s good practice to check when power rankings are issued. Most networks have written analysis to go with power rankings so it’s relatively easy to look up. The graphic also indicates they’re week 1 rankings.

The final thing I’ll say about my rankings is they’re not standings. Just b/c a team lost doesn’t mean they’re just going to drop. The Mystics have faced better teams than the Valks. And have had no blowouts yet. The Sky for example had massive blowouts but went up vs 2 contenders. I factor that.

I’d say on paper both teams are better and that’s why. Tina Charles is on the Sun + Mabrey. They have two top 10 rookies. I think the Mystics are better than both teams & could make the playoffs. Mystics have been more competitive against top teams like the Aces & even tho the Valks won it was close

It’s also not in their best interest to win a lot of games anyway. They have a brutal 5-game stretch coming up where they’ll a be fortunate to get 1 win.

Expansion teams aren’t usually good for the first few years and the Valks don’t have a franchise star. So while I understand the reax to this since the date wasn’t indicated, expectations for them this yr should be realistic.
