To be clear, I'm going off old rules. We don't have the full new CBA (last I heard, even teams didn't). But all media reports said the slight tweak to core rules would be introduced for 2027. So I believe 2026 is basically status quo. If I hear any different, as usual, I'll let everyone know. #WNBA

Core designations happen at the same time as basic QOs. Each team can 'core' a max of 1 unrestricted free agent. Core qualifying offers are different in that they're for the supermax, 1yr, fully guaranteed. Team gets exclusive rights to the player. Sides can negotiate different contract terms. #WNBA
If a player who would be reserved/restricted isn't given a qualifying offer, the team loses their rights and the player automatically becomes an unrestricted free agent, free to sign anywhere. 'Suspended-contract expired' players don't require QOs, but in practice are very similar to reserved. #WNBA
Qualifying offers (QOs) are what teams have to send out to establish rights and make players reserved or restricted free agents, as applicable. The QOs are in themselves contract offers (albeit low, non-guaranteed, 1yr ones), so players can sign them immediately if they wish. #WNBA
