sometimes it flows drop by drop, and other times it's rapids, but we get there in the end.

I absolutely love this explanation.

First-first draft is where I start the story, stumble, then realise what needs to change for the story to feel right. This gets tossed completely to an archived folder. (delete nothing!)

Second-first draft is where the story flows start to finish.

step one: focus on getting healthy and build stamina through personal barre/yoga practice. I think also learning how to take nature photos, just for me.

I have been so productive this week but am now a human slug. Maybe less than a slug, maybe slime mould.

it is kind of neat to see your own heart in a weird, morbid way. Very alien though, especially with the valves going.

I've just been taken into the Heart institute, and expect many more will be in my future.

Yep. This is the 3rd time they've targeted small authors' income in a matter of months.

First they upped the minimum income before payout.
Then they cut the amount they pay out per sale under the guise of 'consolidating' percentages.
Now this.

1 = accident, 2 = coincidence, 3 = deliberate action

I was privileged enough to be a beta reader on this one, and as someone who has to manage disability and pain on a life-long basis...

I. Fucking. LOVE. IT.

Disabled badass energy is something we need more of.

Velta just showed up as Velta.

It sounded a little like volt and a little like velvet, and that felt right for a soft-hearted witch.

I just think a badass gunfighter named Mildred Berry was hilarious. She was almost Millicent, but that wasn't as funny to me, so Mildred it was.

or even character building in the sense of facing things that are very scary to that character that they can no longer ignore.

The fridging business can go straight into the bin, though.

basically, I overthink things and I'm so tired of people being Edgyℒ️ just to be edgy.

I'm old, and if I wanted to read about atrocities these days, I'd just open the news.

I think I gauge how dark something is by who's referring to the work as dark (or light). Are they a regular grimdark reader? Or do they normally read romantasy and cozy?

I've seen a lot of 'dark' books turn out to be not that bad and equally seen them be anti-women. ...1/2

This applies doubly so to game dev or visual art. There's hosting to consider, and software costs, not to mention time that could be used making money at a traditional job.... which many of us also have.

I mean, Cowboy. Elves. amirite?

But really, support Indie authors, especially if you want more interesting and innovative work.

It's expensive to publish a book of a certain standard, and if a series of books doesn't sell, the author can't keep tossing money into that pit. We still need to eat.
