The orange shots are the carve, blue is invert of that. Monochrome/inverse, and the daylight shot. This was a really fun way to play with light by using the carving tool to remove the darkest areas so that the inverted version reveals the image as it supposed to be seen.

I've tried this method before and was pleased with the results, except the only flaw then was that I used an original ghostie character as my subject instead of something more recognizable. So, I chose my big, dumb face.

For my holiday gourd, I wanted to do something a little different. Nothing fancy, just me, well, Nega-Me.

The setting of Hobb's End is a nod to a location from Quatermass and the Pit, another film with Lovecraftian influences. A character named Mrs. Pickman also makes an appearance, and the title of the film is a play on the novella At the Mountains of Madness.

Additionally, many of the names mentioned in the film are nods to various works of Lovecraft's, such as the titles of Sutter Cane's books- Haunter out of Time ("The Haunter of the Dark" and The Shadow Out of Time), The Hobbs End Horror, The Thing in the Basement, and The Whisperer of the Dark.

Despite containing little to directly connect the film to the works of H. P. Lovecraft or the Cthulhu Mythos, the exploration of the concept of insanity in this is very Lovecraftian, as is the motif of Old Ones returning to reclaim the Earth from humankind.

"Every species can smell its own extinction. The last ones left won't have a pretty time with it. In ten years, maybe less, the human race will just be a bedtime story for their children. A myth, nothing more."

Covered head to toe in crosses, sitting in a padded room equally decorated, he delivers one of the most brutal lines when talking about facing the coming nightmares.

There's specifically a scene where he is confined to an asylum, and while discussing him, a doctor asked if he made any requests. To which the other replies, "Yeah. Just... one. A, uh... single black crayon." and we are greeted with one of the most feral scenes Sam Neill has ever scened.

As his investigations lead him to the area of New England in which much of Cane's fiction is set, Trent's sanity begins to fray.

This beastly horror flick follows John Trent (Sam Neill), an insurance agent tasked with tracking down horror writer Sutter Cane, who has gone missing in the midst of a bizarre epidemic.
