I'll put it on my FAN research to-do list and drop them a friendly email message, but am interested in anything #SpeirGorm may know about Patrick McEvoy & the Black Lion Inn, particularly in the years between the Easter Rising and 1926.

Isn’t it? It’s fab. Such a lovely project too, to bring it to a modern audience.

Today is the International Day for Monuments and Sites, and Ireland is truly blessed with a wonderful array of monuments representing millennia of stories.

Do you have a favourite monument in Ireland?

An Irish-language science fiction book sounds quite modern, doesn’t it?

Twice today I saw conversations on doorsteps carried out entirely in Irish. It was genuinely moving to see. Gaeltachts are special places. We need to be investing more in protecting them and ensuring the language and culture can survive and thrive in the communities that nurture them. #Spéirgorm

This statement relates to the Vote Left, Transfer Left position among six candidates in the Galway West by-election and what that means in the context of shared understandings and common goals.
My campaign builds on what we established this past autumn. We came together with common cause for the next presidency. Our politics of solidarity showed that we across the left, parties, independents and non-political individuals can set aside differences for a shared goal.
Our common cause now is to hold this seat on the left in Galway West - our continued politics of solidarity. Our actions are setting the stage for the next general election and showing the potential of a united left government is possible. To achieve this, many people will need to place that goal ahead of themselves; parties will need to compromise.
We all recognise the complexities of global commerce. The recent Ditch post related to Niall Murphy highlights this. Employees of large multinationals may not be aware of the range of locations and divisions their employer operates. Some employees take action to address unethical practices, as Niall Murphy has done in the knowledge his employer is operating in the Occupied Territories and supporting the Israeli Defence Forces. However, Niall Murphy, the Green party candidate received shares in Cisco as part of his remuneration and he purchased more when given the opportunity.. He has not sold these shares, despite his own objections to Cisco’s behaviour in this contested region.
If Niall was a private citizen this would not be of concern; however, Nial is participating in an agreed VLTL position among six candidates, including myself. While this is a matter for the Green party and their supporters, the tension created impacts this collaborative project, particularly in Galway West. In this context, this matter takes on greater significance.

The messy work of unity building needs time, reflection, give and take, and a generosity of spirit. A process to work through differences, and identify a path forward, will be needed, as this incident has highlighted. The alternative is the continued Fianna Fail / Fine Gael reign. As the convenor of the Connolly Campaign in Galway, I led the work of unity building. If elected TD, I will continue this work in the Dail, towards an alternative government for the people of Ireland.
Sheila Garrity
Independent Candidate, Galway West

Surrealing in the Years: At least Fianna Fáil will be okay, and that's what really matters Crisis averted!

Fair.

"Rather than a meaningful conversation about how such a small group of people can pretty much buckle the country at a whim ... we’re instead left to wonder whether Fianna Fáil will ever be able to go back to being friends with each other. "

A few years ago approx ‘10 to ‘15, to park up a motorbike and to pitch a tent in some campsites was TWO yes, 2, euro a night. They had pay as you go showers and laundry and a little shop on site. And of course, a toilet block.

Disappointing High Court judgment today suggesting deportation of a parent is less traumatising for a baby than it would be for an older child

If only there was some history in Ireland of enforced separation between babies and parents that might have suggested a different conclusion

And they love when there’s amenities available where they need them, showers, washing machines, bathrooms, food, camp sites. Imagine the luxury.

For some if the people in my life it took me pointing out the life expectancy & education levels of the Traveller community in the 90s were as bad as African Americans in inner city gettos, for them to see the systemic oppression here.

As a male #Munster supporter, I'm outraged by this decision & want Munster to reverse it.

This will keep happening if us men don't stand up & fight against misogyny.

They & McMillan knew about it all & think it doesn't matter.

Brave & Faithful my arse.

That sounds like a wise precaution alright! Why can’t we just follow their lead? I suppose a report and a meeting or 10 before we can do anything??? I’m joking of course, but now they figured out how to make decisions…
