It's 10 years today since Prince died.
So a reminder of this, that happened on the other place, because sometimes sadness can still bring laughter.

Voters have just today left to register to vote for the local elections taking place across England on 7 May. Anyone who wants to take part must register before 11.59pm tonight.

Registering takes minutes at gov.uk/register-to-vote. Just need name, address & National Insurance number. Pass it on.

Yes, it's usually the excess calcium I think. The latest fad in dog food is feeding raw meat so I suspect feeding bones is on the rise too.

Just had a red kite hovering and circling disturbingly close overhead on Dukes Road, Broomhead Moor. Turns out that they're beautiful to watch unless they're close, then it's really unsettling.

I've just seen a job ad asking for "...experience of work in administration, finance, HR, marketing and will have excellent communication and IT skills..."
Minimum wage.
The rapid increase in minimum wage has really messed the job market up.

Farmers For Action are considering protesting fuel prices. Because there's nothing like taking a bad situation for everyone and making it worse.

I'm sure Trump and Iran will both back down when they find out British farmers are angry.

Private firms providing services to NHS made £1.6bn profit in two years, research finds Exclusive: MPs say profit-making levels in England are ‘scandalous’ and call for cap on amount private companies can make from NHS

That's £1.6bn profit that went to investors and hedge funds, not to training more nurses and doctors, or investing in crumbling infrastructure, or sorting out corridor care.

Anyone who describes a mere twenty-hour period as a marathon in any negotiation where there are fundamental disagreements, including peace talks, shows they do not understand negotiations.

Sunday at Bill's Mother's: 12th April 2026 Can Sheffield beat Birmingham or Barcelona at bioblitz? Seed feeders of doubt. Muddy Mother's weather warnings.

More info in this week's Sunday at Bill's Mothers. Apparently "all the data captured will end up in the UK’s National Biodiversity Network NBN Atlas, used by ecologists and planners across the country."

Think I'll sign up for this and hope for good weather in a couple of weeks. It'll be interesting to see a biodiversity snapshot of the city.

It may seem like nerdy detail that the increasing weight of cars is worsening potholes, but it matters.

The car makers push to sell wider and heavier cars is increasing road maintenance costs and that affects us all.

Not to mention worse crash outcomes and less space to pass (wider) parked cars.
