Three Glossy Ibis giving great scope views at Stiffkey, Norfolk.
Weekend ended on 90 species, just 5 year ticks: Cattle Egret & Sarnie Tern too, Iceland Gull & Swallow.
Tired & deflated after not making it back to Notts in time for a lifer, Leach's Petrel. Glad bird flew off strong, tho

Great Egret feeding chick in nest. Adult is a large wader, all white body, black legs, bright yellow and insanely sharp bill. Seen feeding a youngling, its' plumage still coming in, not quite covering all the leading edge of its wittle baby wings yet. The green leathery skin can be seen here at bottom. Birds in a thickly wooded area, actually well away from human contact, long lenses are best here.

Great Egret with two chicks in nest. Adult is a large wader, all white body, black legs, bright yellow and insanely sharp bill. Long breeding plumage seen on the adult, short punk-rock looks on the chicks, so cute! These all white waders have black legs and bright yellow, very sharp bills, with bright yellow eyes. This shot was taken just before sundown one evening this spring, the whole scene is aglow with that awesome golden light effect. Roseate Spoonbill family, two adults, two chicks in nest at sundown. Wonderful golden hour glow casting that extra tint throughout the entire image. Spoonbills are medium to large bodied waders, long pinkish legs, bright pink to red feathers, sides and backs, whiter hues under and on neck. Distinctive long flat bill ending in trademark ladle shape spoonbill feature. Chicks have the spoonbill shape started, but the length of the whole bill is very short when young.

Sandhill Cranes, backs to camera, seen here shopping for snacks in a pasture area with junior tagging along for hunting lessons. This family group of two adults and one chick has been joined by the ever-present cattle egret, known for its great forage skills as well. Sandhill Cranes are tall birds, long legs and long necks. Gray to beige bodies, paler neck, distinctive red cap on head behind the eyes, long sharp beak, very stabby. Junior bird here is all rusty - reddish and fuzzy looking, very tiny compared to mom and dad. Tiny even compared to the much smaller cattle egret. This egret is all white, yellow legs, medium shorter bill, sharp and stabby in it's own right. The three Sandhill Cranes are all looking left of camera, while the cattle egret is checking to the right. The adults here are in bookend formation, framing the juvenile and egret in between them.

A Leach's Petrel in typical side on flight view with long angled wings held vertical. A black and grey body frames a white V shaped rump and notched tail. Grey bands across the wings highlight the shape of the bird.

Amazing views of Leach's Petrel at Idle Washlands this morning in very cold and windy conditions. Long periods of drifting on the water made me wonder about its health, but short flights to avoid Coot showed it to be fairly mobile and responsive. #ukbirding #birds #BirdsSeenIn2026 for England.

This image captures a close-up, side profile of a European Robin (Erithacus rubecula) perched atop a thorny branch.
Subject Details
• The Bird: The robin is the central focus, looking slightly downward and to the left. It has its characteristic vibrant orange-red breast and face, which transitions into a soft greyish-brown on its wings and back. Its underbelly is a pale off-white.
• Action: The robin appears to have a small insect or bit of food clutched in its dark, pointed beak, suggesting it may be foraging.
• Perch: It is balancing on a thick, dark green stem covered in sharp, reddish thorns (likely a bramble or rose bush).
Background and Composition
• Setting: The background is a soft, out-of-focus mix of green leaves and brown twigs, creating a shallow depth of field that makes the bird stand out sharply.
• Lighting: The lighting is natural and slightly muted, as if filtered through a forest canopy, highlighting the texture of the robin's feathers and the fine details of its thin legs.

Incredible! Leach’s Petrel - a bird that lives in the open ocean for most of the year, feeding beyond the edge of the continental shelf of Europe - 40+ miles inland at Misson, Notts this morning. Wow, wow, wow. A knock-out bird. #lifer #ukbirding #birdsseenin2026 #birds #nottsbirding

On site b4 the Wilts Stone Curlews were up yesterday. They didn't surface till 6.30am!! So I give you the all-singing, all-dancing Stone Curlew pair. NOT! They move in slow-mo and have no facial expression and I bloody love them. I'm surprised that they don't fence the sheep off? #UKBirding
