Dusky Warbler at Boscathnoe 28th March 2026.
The wintering Dusky Warbler showed well this morning at its faithful spot. Present from 17th December and never really ventured further than the reservoir perimeter. Today it gave incredible views. It has also been heard singing.

A lovely souvenir of a recent trip to Cornwall to see a rare ROSS’S GULL. No birder in their right mind would ever tire of being in the company of such a species.
Massive thanks to Theresa Owens for sharing her talents.

A first winter Bonaparte’s Gull was found at Marazion beach, in front of the Godolphin hotel on Sun 15th March. It was still present 16th and I saw it well with several Black-headed Gulls. Whether it is a wandering bird or a new one is difficult to say. There’s a few around!

Manx Shearwater is back in Cornish waters in numbers. 317 this morning off Porthgwarra and 515 yesterday off Pendeen Watch.
Also 3 Puffin today, the first for the year for me. Over next three weeks, peak numbers pass Cornwall heading north to the breeding grounds.

2 summer plumage Red-necked Grebes feeding off Pennance Point this morning. They've generally kept around 500m offshore, occasionally interacting. There's been 1-3 intermittently in Falmouth Bay since 15th January at least, and earlier in the Helford. Beautiful birds! #cornwallbirding @cbwps.org.uk

Was this adult Winter Bonapartes Gull at Copperhouse Hayle yesterday.
A great day Gulling with Ross's, Ring billed, Caspian, Iceland and Little Gull all seen.
One to remember.
#Cornwallbirding
Showing all the classic winter Boney’s features - short pink legs, light grey ‘shawl’ up the back of the neck, short black bill, slightly darker mantle than BHG.
Lovely small black beads along primary tips - much cleaner than BH. I have another shot of the white underwing.
Garganey doing its best impression of a Wigeon. This is the second Garganey of the winter. The first one was a juv female. Strange times. It’s quite hard to pick out in amongst its Wigeon buddies. Especially at 200 mtrs in the rain and murk.
You can’t get more Iceland than this. Pure white primaries … no hint of any Kumlien’s genes here.
Just spending the day around Hayle paid off. A new (as far as I know) adult Bonaparte’s on Copperhouse popped in, with a pristine adult Iceland earlier on the main drag, an ‘argentatus’ Herring Gull (I think) plus the male Garganey hanging with the Wigeon #cornwallbirding #birdsseenin2026 #gulls
