A split bar chart of YouGov polling data with the headline: "Americans are most likely to say T. Rex is their favorite dinosaur, but many don't have a favorite." The chart has the sub-headline: "Which of the following is your favorite dinosaur? (%)." The chart has the note: "Note: "Other" includes responses of archaeopteryx, spinosaurus, plesiosaur, ankylosaurus, allosaurus, parasaurolophus, dilophosaurus, diplodocus, iguanadon, and pachycephalosaurus, as well as responses of "other." We know pterodactyls and plesiosaurs aren't dinosaurs. Opinion about dinosaurs comes from the question, "How much do you like or dislike dinosaurs?""
A shocking new poll result: Many Americans somehow don't have a favorite dinosaur.
And only 6% give the correct answer (triceratops).

In NYC, a shelter for trans people experiencing homelessness should be a godsend to the most vulnerable members of our community, but issues including predatory cis men lying their way in have made it a nightmare.
And @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social isn't answering activists' emails...
much to dislike about american food culture but my greatest beef (pun not intended) is about how hard it is to find snacks that aren't too sweet. i should not have to go to kalyustan's just to get apricots that haven't been drenched in corn syrup!

A full disc image of Earth, as seen from the Orion Crew Module. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. At lower left, a large brown landmass is Africa, with Spain and Portugal with twinkling lights where the planet curves. At top right, auroras glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space (pic: NASA/R.Wiseman)
More context on this #Artemis II image:
* This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right
* The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon:

I agree with this, and the thing too is that LLMs are the printing press: you cannot uninvent a technology. social media as it currently exist are specific networks from specific companies and you can destroy networks. modern social media can be made to go away in a way that LLMs simply cannot.

A woman riding a gallimimus races through a misty hillside alongside a fellow hunter. She wears a long white robe that billows out, supplemented with leathers and feather trims. Soft clouds sweep overhead.

I'm very pleased to present the work I did for @paulscottcanavan.com 's MIR mentorship. He's a fantastic teacher and our cohort was lovely!
Pink pterosaurs, pink water. A flock of pterosaurs adapted for filter-feeding soar along a Jurassic coast undergoing a phytoplankton bloom, exposing the source of the pink carotenoids that they sequester into their fuzz to make their bodies and faces pink. Marine carotenoids would have been especially common from the Mesozoic onwards, and it's very plausible that animals like pterosaurs would have picked them up in their diets.
Still alive as work on Book 7 enters the last few days, though I am quite sleep-deprived. And which joker organised daylight savings so close to my deadline? Thanks, jerk.
Here's some #paleoart of the Jurassic pterosaur Balaenognathus soaring over dinoflagellates, the source of their pink bodies.

I'm sorry ma'am, but your son perished on Kharg Island in a valiant effort to create Wii Bowling meme videos for the White House X account. In the face of danger, he was not cringe; he was based to his last breath. Please have this commemorative Epic Fury challenge coin. Yes that's Punisher, ma'am
six square prints arranged in a 2x3 grid, showing (top row, L-R): a tyrannosaur, a Dunkleosteus, a flying grasshopper, (bottom row, L-R) a mammoth, a spiky, urchin-like Cambrian organism, and a thylacine. all the prints are aquatint etchings with ghostly silhouettes of the animals in white against a deep black background.
current project: an A-Z of extinct animals, in the form of tiny etchings!

Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads: The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same... - Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist
Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
