Google's new AI 'world model' has seemingly spooked videogame investors, but it's hard to know what it will actually lead to Can auto-generated "worlds" really be exciting?

I regret to inform everyone that the smartest money people out there are, overwhelmingly, dumb as a rock

AI layoffs are looking more and more like corporate fiction that's masking a darker reality, Oxford Economics suggests | Fortune "Firms don't appear to be replacing workers with AI on a significant scale," the firm said. It suspects some are trying to "dress up layoffs" as good news.

While there is anecdotal evidence of AI affecting layoffs, the macroeconomic data does not support this narrative fortune.com/2026/01/07/a...

I can't begin to say how bad this is. Putting CEOs instead of AI scientists and Nobel winners on the front page. Wow. These CEOs deserve no recognition.

And the image itself looks so AI generated. It fits, I suppose.

I don't know about your institution but here salary increases are tied to performance, and teaching performance is an important part of that evaluation. So there is at least something penalizing checking out.

That's only possible for the size of the conference. Any bigger and it would be difficult.

Open question at the @exag.bsky.social speculative game jam at #AIIDE25 : can you implement generative AI in a game as a game mechanic and not make it into a chatbot? Can you generate data ethically and consensually?

Looking forward to seeing friends and colleagues in Edmonton this week for AIIDE! I'll be trying my hand at live tweeting the paper sessions at both the main conference and EXAG/INT, which I'll try to keep in this big reply thread (starting off tomorrow). @aiide.bsky.social @exag.bsky.social
