Getting some long needed cuddles with my pup after coming back from #aiide25. Thanks to everyone who made AIIDE this year a great experience and giving me lots of inspiration for my future research (p.s. you can expect some emails from me as I now have 100 new research ideas)
At the airport flying back from #aiide25. Lots of interesting research that I may post about later. I think I've now been to each of my "home" conferences once post-pandemic (AIIDE 2025, FDG 2024, CoG 2023), which were all somewhat surreal experiences for a variety of reasons.
#AIIDE25 wrapped! Thanks to everyone who made this year’s @aiide.bsky.social such a success. We’ll be back soon with announcements for ’26’s location and call, plus the ‘25 recordings. But for now I’m going to turn off my brain for 48 hours.
Game researchers: our work should be taken just as seriously as any other field.

Related but distinct from #AIIDE25 is the release of SIMA 2 from DeepMind. Will Douglas Heaven has a nice, measured writeup and kindly included some critical quotes from me in it.

Phenomenal showing by the Narrative Intelligence Lab at #AIIDE25! @sgware.bsky.social, Molly Siler, Gage Birchmeier, and Lasantha Senanayake presented a bevy of interesting research talks on interactive narrative. It's particularly exciting to see where the DC scholars are headed!
Emily is again live-posting as we reach the first real day of #AIIDE25, follow along!
It is so nice to see these papers and authors been honoured with the test of time. Well deserved indeed! #AIIDE25

Open question at the @exag.bsky.social speculative game jam at #AIIDE25 : can you implement generative AI in a game as a game mechanic and not make it into a chatbot? Can you generate data ethically and consensually?
My fantastic PhD student Emily is live bskying #AIIDE25! Follow along to see summaries of all the fantastic @exag.bsky.social sessions today!
