Ugh! I have prior engagements unfortunately. Please lmk if you have links to recordings of these or previous talks and I’ll share them across platforms. Thanks!
If you were unable to make my webinar on Oak Origins this week and are still interested, I'll be giving the lecture again this Thursday through Teacher Institute for Evolutionary Science (again, free, online, open to all). Preregister here:

Partially decomposed white pine cross-section.
Boat landing at Lake Bailey, Michigan -- showing two canoes and two people in wetsuits overlooking a lake with no development on the far shoreline.
I sampled a white pine log at this boat landing a couple years ago. It was overgrown with willows and partially decomposed in the soil. I finally measured it today and it dates from 1422-1588.
It was a nice 30-minute break from the work I should be doing.

🌳 Poplar, Oh! Poplar. Sooo many core mounts being made this week and weekend to get orders to our great customers doing tree-ring work! 🌲💍 #dendro #dendrochronology
I ❤️ the wood shop, and it’s such a privilege to get to do this for the #dendro community. Much love to you all and keep on doing the cool research and work you do. We’ve got your back! #dendrochronology #DendroSupply

I also have an oak(!) PhD opportunity in my group via the CENTA DTP 😅. What drives oak's slow ageing, and can this be changed to allow fast breeding? If you know anyone who's interested please do let them know! Deadline 8th January. Thank you! 🙏

🚨 New paper! 🌲🌲🌲 Monkey puzzle trees reproduce in mast years that occur synchronously across their range. But large-scale sync isn’t the norm - just when its warm. We reconstructed using #TreeRings, using the signal from varying reproductive costs in male and female trees doi.org/10.1002/ecs2.70087
Just saw it! Wonderful idea, and I bet it’s stunning. Well worth the effort!
American sycamore (Platanus occidentalis) wood grain 😍 from The Forest Store in Hooks, TX). Such an underrated wood!
I've made a starter pack of those with interests in tree-ring science e.g. dendroclimatology, dendrochronology, dendroecology.
Please let me know if you'd like to be added (or removed!) or to suggest others to add

Our team is back in the field again!
There aren't too many late fall days in the Oregon coast range that look like this, so they took full advantage. 43 tree cores and several stump cross sections(!!!)

The Forest Store at Hochatown, OK with the “Best Shop Genre” award 🥇!! Cool shop and I was fortunate enough to find their other The Forest Store on my way to Texarkana in Hooks, TX. Loved them both! 🌲🌳❤️
Do you want to join my plant ecophysiology lab studying plant stress and mortality? I am hiring a biological scientist, a permanent research support position. Job posting and more information available here: explore.jobs.ufl.edu/en-us/job/53...

The Early Career Ecologists starter pack is officially completed! Please have a look and give a follow to each and every one of these amazing individuals
And, to anyone who is still interested in joining, perhaps we can do part 2 in a bit?

Same (minus becoming a fed). I am about to start working on NEON sites, managing field operations though, may need to be more thoughtful :) I like this social app though. Feels like twitter’s better days to me.
Ha! Yeah I’m pretty much everywhere in some capacity 😅 just not TikTok, I’m not cool enough for that!
🌳💚 Pre-ordered & now delivered!! @andrewlhipp.bsky.social’s Oak Origins is soon to be consumed. One for me, and one for a friend. Thanks for gifting us a condensed version your oaky knowledge, Andrew. May it be shared widely and bring us all better insight to the oaks around us! 🌳
I love this strength and leadership from the youngest woman ever elected. Indigenous women are fierce and powerful!!!
New paper led by Matt Hurteau (@mhurteau.bsky.social) out today on southwestern US forests.
