I can't bring myself to watch this BUT thank you for sharing and raising awareness because this kind of horrific cruelty is going on day after day and the sooner more people realize this perhaps something will change.

Pinned ladybirds from the UCMZ that were collected by Alfred Russell Wallace
I was lucky enough to spend some time with our Entomology collection this week, and sometimes itβs the small things that stick. This is a case of ladybirds π collected by Alfred Russell Wallace (www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/who...) who co-discovered the idea of natural selection and evolution. Just wow π€©
Kevin Radley and I saw our first Speckled Wood

This is the first Platystomos albinus fungus weevil we've seen in the garden; how annoying then that I didn't manage to get an in focus photo! π§
We see the similar Platyrhinus resinosus (Cramp-ball Fungus Weevil) quite regularly.

Another first of the year for me today, again in the garden. A Pied Shieldbug (Tritomegas bicolor), on one its host plants the White Deadnettle (Lamium album. A plant we never weed out in the garden and one that, thankfully, the Muntjac don't eat (yet).

They've been asking but everything I've seen in recent weeks tells me they aren't listening or even wanting to hear.
For so many people it's just their dogs that are the centre of the universe.
Basking Adders? Nesting Skylarks?
No thanks, I like to see my dogs off the lead, enjoying themselves...
A Southern Cuckoo Bumblebee (Bombus vestalis) in the garden today. It's the first cuckoo bumblebee I've seen this year.
