I've caught two fish in the riffles after the pool under the dam my whole life. That's it. Nothing in the pool proper. Even though folks probably think it makes for a good photo, they should take that thing out.

Sadly, it does feel that way. It's not even nostalgia for the past, it's just asking yourself, "would I like to eat/shop/etc... here?" I can't see how any of the suits making these changes to save a few bucks could justifiably say yes.

I Grew Up on Happy Meals. This New McDonald’s Made Me Sad. A few weeks ago, a brand new McDonald's restaurant opened no more than a few miles from my front door. There are other McDonald's locations in the general area, but this is now the closest one, and the one I figured I'd frequent if so inclined. Now, yes, I know McDonald's isn't necessarily the healthiest dietary choice, just like most other fast foods, but I'm not above it.

Logjam There was so much downed timber in the water, far more than I remember last summer. The big, heavy kind that isn't easy to navigate. You can't go around it, thanks to the thick rhododendron lining each bank. You just need to climb it and go over. Or under if there's enough clearance. Sometimes it wasn't even tree trunks impeding one's progress, a thick collection of dead branches served as a equally effective deterrent to upstream wading.

Restoring Michigan’s Long Lost Arctic Grayling Nice video from Great Lakes Now and Detroit PBS about the efforts to re-establish the arctic grayling population in northern Michigan. I enjoyed the "behind the scenes" on the conservation efforts taking place. Grayling haven't swam in Michigan waters for over a century; I really hope they're successful reestablishing wild populations over the long haul. Give it a watch, and learn more here.

When We All Fished in the Same Place Nostalgia is a dangerous thing. Your fond memories of a time, place, or thing tend to sugarcoat the actual events as they happened. But in this scenario, I don't think that's fully the case. This video started it all for me in 2009... Annual Renewal We received the notice from our local tax collector that is was time to renew the registration on my wife's SUV this past week. As both a Classic Trout rod and general click & pawl reel devotee, I can only say it's about time!
