Of een simpelere reden: dat sprekers het verschil tussen 'studentin' en 'student*in' gewoon duidelijk willen maken. Dan hoeft het niet om het taalgebruik van mensen te beoordelen

I would say both [Mandarin] and Swedish tone are prosodic in that they're both suprasegmental phonological phenomena. Plus Swedish tone is phonemic! (as in [Mandarin]) One main difference is in how many syllables per word bear a tone (Swedish, Japanese, etc. < Mandarin, Vietnamese, etc.)
