I was recently rejigging our Proust Questionnaire of Copy Prompts for a new client, and it got me thinking about this principle. No matter what it always comes back to your people. So let’s get into Principle 3 of Human-Centred Design!
Posts by Flegg Creative
Text that reads Principle 2L How to become a systems thinker. Systems thinking, in its simplest terms is just a way to recognize the interconnectedness of all things
Text that reads: What pieces make up your system? Think about the tools or platforms you use in your organization, what you use them for and how you connect one to another
Text that reads: What's your goal? Ask yourself what you're trying to accomplish and how each piece of your system contributes to the goal
Text that reads: Design for your system. You've heard the expression "form follows functions." It doesn't mean design is less important. It means design exists to further your goals.
We're making our way through the four key principles of human-centred design, and it's time for #2: Think in Systems (because everything is part of a system)

Like this one from the garden this morning:
Your regularly scheduled reminder that you can turn in this setting to require alt text on every image you post!
Yeah that tracks, doesn’t it. Good grief
I don’t think big media is taking accountability, and I kind of thought it was a sign more regular people were taking it seriously (at least something that’s as easy to do as alt text) but you’re probably right about AI part. We can’t have nice things.
We deserve accessibility in our online lives and our IRL gardens! This is lovely.
July is Disability-Pride Month.
Anyone on this earth can become disabled at any time.
This is your call to amplify disabled voices, fight for accessibility, and the right to thrive

I’m setting up a new computer, and thinking perhaps it is time to revisit Firefox
A note on this first day of July that at Flegg Creative we believe in Indigenous sovereignty from Turtle Island to Palestine. Occupation is a crime.

Very relevant to our point no. 3 in the top 5 reasons we don’t use generative AI www.fleggcreative.ca/blog/5-reaso...
I did not know that! I’ll admit I’m a bit shocked

Have bought what looked like a beautiful web theme only to realize when you tried to use it that all the visual appeal came from the photos? Us too. We believe photography is an excellent and affordable way to elevate your business’s first website. Visit latablegourmande.ca to see more!
An arm holds out a bouquet of flowers featuring sweet peas, cosmos, cornflower and yarrow. Against a background of grass
To brighten your Monday morning a tad - sweet peas and cornflower and yarrow are going nuts, cosmos and scabiosa are about to take off. It’s flower season! #garden #pnwflowers
Also, I’ve always been in the “AI should do the dishes not write screenplays” school of thought. Let’s keep the tasks that require nuance and critical thinking and compassion and hand off the other stuff so we have more time for creativity and critical thought. Also I really hate doing dishes.
It is getting scary how often we see AI touted as the solution to all the world’s accessibility problems. AI does material harm to people and planet in myriad ways. It’s not ok for us to abdicate responsibility for building the world we deserve by ignoring the problems and letting AI “think” for us
CLARIFICATION :
The Trevor Project's hotline will still be live. But basically this means LGBTQ people can no longer be connected to it through the US national 988 suicide prevention hotline.
They will need to be contacted DIRECTLY
So spread this around
They can be texted. They can be called.
A great short thread, but especially this:
Black text on a yellow background reads “Copy is not written. Copy is assembled.”
Saw this on LinkedIn this morning it feels like a very good way to explain the difference between copywriting and other forms. It also reflects a more collaborative approach. Clients give us the material, and we put it together in the most compelling way we can.
It’s great to see the longer boxes! And also great to see advice that says information should be presented in multiple ways right on the site where screen readers can access it rather than trying to cram it all into alt text
Starting out with something with a monthly fee makes me hesitate a little, but maybe that’s just the (literal) price you pay for fewer Nazis 😂🙄
Super helpful guide to alt text for complex images like charts and infographics!

What an excellent reminder of the pink washing from Israel and the need for an end to the genocide. Don't forget.

This is super cool. (One of the things I like best about making websites my clients have control over is that usable websites are part of having the power to tell their own stories and create their own records)
Been thinking about adding a long-form platform to our stack and learning about @ghost.org Anybody using it and have thoughts?
Hot pink chairs and benches stacked up in a protest with protesters hiding behind them as law enforcement fires upon the barricades with rubber bullets and tear gas
RIOS rios.imagines RIOS rios.imagines Images of the bright pink Civic furniture line that we designed for@grandpark_la "The Park for Everyone," being used by LA protesters stopped us in our tracks. These pieces were designed to move, adapt, welcome, connect - and now protect. We stand in solidarity with our city during moments of civic expression in support of unjust treatment, and we are reminded of why we design: for our community, diversity, and a sense of belonging. Everyone saw Grand Park's hot pink benches being stacked into a barricade on Sunday. What an exceptional statement from RIOS, the benches' designers instagram.com/rios.imagines

We’re also dealing with increased militarization of police (and even bylaw officers) and violence in our small community on Vancouver Island. It’s all connected, and as professionals who talk about access and justice in our work, it’s our responsibility to talk about access and justice of all kinds.
