With how bizarre Japanese mascots can become, it almost feels like designing them can be rolling on a bunch of random tables and going with the result.
I can get Saitama having a mascot that promotes their stadium, but the one with the upside down head and lucky gold hat seems totally random.

First session gauntlet of Shadowdark went excellent, couldn’t ask for better. Players had a blast. PCs explored all rooms, discovered all secrets, solved most puzzles, and even managed to kill the big bad gelatinous cube in a pretty epic climax. Great potential for future adventures. 💯

Prepping to GM my first Shadowdark game tomorrow. It’ll be a lvl-0 gauntlet through Trial of the Slime Lord.
Made a bunch of handouts for the players. I forgot how much I enjoy making props for games. I think they really help with immersion.

Personally: JRL1 is an excellent starting adventure. I’d follow that up with LPOC1, which I prefer it over JRL2. Haven’t read all ofLPOC2 yet, though it promising and EN1 also looks intriguing.

A couple of us had the impression that more than a single 4 hour session was needed to fully absorb the adventure. Seeing the map briefly afterwards supported our thoughts. Maybe not ideal for a con or one-shot?
Tl;Dr: I liked it & look forward to seeing the whole thing. 👍
…PCs never encountered what they were looking for. Loot both mundane and magical, stuff to play with and/or manage our inventory slots was missing.
Unsure if ending was the actual ending or just something thrown together by the GM that once our time slot was finishing up. Felt rushed.
I liked the location’s weird gross premise, plenty of interesting hazards and encounters for us to navigate/react to.
Dunno if our GM removed them for the convention game, but we didn’t come across any treasure which is a primary drive for PCs in Shadowdark. Yes plenty of personal hooks but some…
