Very sorry to hear of JH Prynne's death.I was sent to him for my u/g dissertation on Wm Cowper, 1990. He was brilliant, warm and kind, & talked about poetry as if he was there, somewhere along the chain of its making, speaking from inside as well as outside it. www.theparisreview.org/interviews/6...
Standing by the window I heard it,
while waiting for the turn. In hot light
and chill air it was the crossing flow
of even life, hurt in the mouth but
exhausted with passion and joy -
RIP J.H. Prynne
Sorry to hear this news. I was lucky enough to have seminars with Prynne both on Ezra Pound and on American literature… I never quite got to grips with his own poetry but he was a wonderful teacher, clarifying and enthusing
I, too, would like to be buried with the nerdiest passage of my favourite book.
You should write it then x
Almost everything we argue about is a substitute for the thing we should be arguing about: the immense wealth & power of an oligarchic class, which captures governments, ruins lives and wrecks the living planet.
This class redirects our rage at scapegoats. To resist its lies is to resist its power.
Quite literally Nazi propaganda.
PART TWO of my readalong now up! Venture with me into the toxic manosphere of ‘Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came’ by Robert Browning open.substack.com/pub/clarespo...
So Palantir are like Fascist fascists i see yeah maybe we shouldn’t integrate the nazi computer into the NHS
I don't recall any previous transformative technologies that had to be sold to the public so hard. No one in 1999 was going, "Guys. Cell phone? It's coming, whether we like it or not. I think it's important, FOR WOMEN ESPECIALLY, to learn about cell phone. So that we're not left behind!!"
Not new, but so perfectly put.....

Unspeakably evil. I cannot believe Israel has so normalized this there’s barely any outcry. War crimes every day www.theguardian.com/world/2026/a...

Disney's new CEO, whose pay package is worth nearly $45M, just announced 1,000 layoffs.
Reminder that Disney paid an effective federal income tax rate of ZERO in 2025 and aims to buy back $7B of its own stock in 2026.
This is what corporate greed looks like.
WARREN: I want to understand how slashing healthcare for families so Meta gets a $3b tax cut is a 'really good outcome for the American public'
IRS CEO BISIGNANO: I don't see the two as correlated
W: Those tax cuts were paid for by pushing people off their healthcare. Did you not follow that?
What‘s up? THIS IS WHAT’S UP. Could you all just fucking concentrate?

While the US is floundering under this incoherent oil-obsessed old man, the rest of the world is scrambling to reduce its dollar dependency and transition to a Chinese green energy stack. Trump’s most lasting damage to the US may be making the Rmb the new global reserve currency
Claims and ideas which happen to favour the ruling class don't dominate public life by accident. They're paid for by oligarchs and corporations then promoted by media outlets other oligarchs and corporations own. Once they've been drummed into our ears enough, they're internalised as "common sense".
Text of William Wordsworth’s Daffodils poem
Photograph of a host of golden daffodils
…beyond Gowbarrow park we saw a few daffodils close to the water side... as we went along there were more & yet more… & the rest tossed & reeled & danced & seemed as if they verily laughed with the wind that blew upon them over the lake.

James Bembridge on X: Hate is too weak a word for what I feel towards the NHS. I'd tear it down and salt the earth upon which it stood.
Lovely people, these Reform UK candidates for the upcoming election, and great to know they're on our side.
the most evil guy in the country wants to feed everything you've ever done into a machine that replicates you so he can eliminate you, and some people still walk around saying "well, there ARE some uses for this technology"
"Which country in the Middle East has nuclear weapons? It's not Iran, it's Israel... Which country in the Middle East attacked six countries last year? It wasn't Iran, it was Israel."
