i suppose you don't necessarily need that to be a strict to-the-letter cellular automaton, though certainly the emergent properties and structures from those would be a big inspiration.
dome keeper dlc has got me thinking about similar ideas.
the mine-upgrade-defend loop is compelling to me, i think i want to try making my own game in that vein at some point, and i think it would be interesting to have the layout of your mine (or equivalent) shift subtly between waves.
would it be possible to make a(n interesting) cellular automaton that preserves "mass"? i.e. living cell count stays the same between steps.
normally not something you'd want, i just had this odd idea to use it for something like slow "movement" for a mining(?) game of some kind.

i'm taking the RGB values for each corner of the RGB cube, converting them to Okhsl, interpolating between them based on the input colour's RGB values, and then converting back.

Oh dear, I discovered that someone made a series of video-focused modules for VCV Rack and I lost like 4 hours just playing with it.
While it's not exactly proper video emulation, it is fun to mess around with encoding images over signals (and to also try doing animation logic in a synth setting)!
