His mum would be teaching him all this, my cat had kittens and she was still breastfeeding the two I let her keep for months after the others had gone to their new homes. I am so jealous you have a kitten! Though I do have a puppy which is nearly as good 😊
No, I force myself not to look even a paragraph ahead
I just finished it today, loved it!
Love these, I saw a whole shelf of them in a little independent bookshop in Brighton that only sold signed first editions, it was a thing of beauty.
Amie McNees new book we need your art held up against the backdrop of my living room
This excellent book
Curling, aged and yellowing pages with a woman’s slanted handwriting on both sides of an open diary.
A page from a woman called Mrs Winn’s diary in 1870, I’ve got five of her diaries and it feels such an honour to have them in my possession. I collect handwritten diaries and cookbooks because I love social history. It’s like a kind of time travelling magic that I never grow tired of.
@inspiredtowrite.bsky.social love the new book!!!
We Need Your Art book
Been reading this all day, got it on the day it came out and the very same day my puppy chewed the corner off, brilliant book though.

So am I but they can’t keep it all at bay for me, they just take the edge off the feeling of being on top of the world one week and suicidal the next.
An open book with cream pages and a spidery scrawl in black biro, the author has tilted the camera shot so that all you can make out is the words kill yourself and lorazapam. The book rests on a deep turquoise green bedspread with red and pink flowers and green leaves.
When the bipolar gets the better of you and all that’s left to do is write your way through it.
Old, yellowing paper with printed text on it, dictionary definition and related information on the entry ‘Elephant’. ‘An elephant was (by the ancients) made an emblem of the king, because they were of the opinion that he could not bow his knee, and also because his long teeth, being accounted his horns, betokened sovereignty and dominion’
‘To make of a fly an elephant’ to make great bustle or noise about a trifle. ‘Knights of the Elephant, an order of knighthood in Denmark; they wear a blue ribband with an elephant pendant’ 1736 dictionary entry.
You do! It’s my favourite thing 😊
A notebook with a double page spread of messy writing with sections highlighted, a look inside my writers mind, notes on my work in progress. Highlighted sections read ‘you need to decide on how much technology remains, a mix of very little and some’, ‘the smell of rabbit cages, ammonia. The sound of them snuffling, breathing’, two women who are breeding the rabbits, I want them to be important, play a bigger part, be involved in the overthrow somehow’. Notebook is propped up on oak desktop, a bottle of fountain pen ink can be seen just above the page.
A page in my notebook for the manuscript I’m working on, when I get stuck on my laptop and cannot get past an empty screen I come here to write my way out of it.
Yours sounds great! Mine is a post apocalyptic fantasy set in London. It revolves around a drug called Shine that lets you live in your memories and, for those skilled enough in its use, to change the past. My MC is a plus sized lesbian with anxiety who also kills people, her wife is a Shine addict.
It’s the best! I’m still writing, 74k into a first draft, I look forward to querying one day, what’s your book about?
Ooh can you please add me? Thanks 😊
This is why I don’t buy hardbacks 😂
The front page of a dictionary from 1736 entitled ‘DICTIONARIUM BRITANNICUM or a more compleat UNIVERSAL ETYMOLOGICAL ENGLISH DICTIONARY’ The words are in red and black and at the end of the page it says ‘A work useful for for such as would understand what they read and hear, speak what they mean, and write true English.
Dictionary from 1736, one of my oldest books. I love opening it at random and creating sentences with new words. Today I found out that I am amnigenous, born or bred in, of, or near a river. I love words. #booksky #dictionaries #oldbooks
Thank you 😊😊
Bisexual writer here writing a novel with an anxious lesbian who also kills people and a non binary chemist who has invented a drug that takes people into the future, would love to be included in your list, thanks!
Thought it was just me
I try to journal my way out of slumps, a good bout of navel-gazing seems to help and because it’s not ‘real’ writing there’s no pressure for it to be anything but self-pitying nonsense! Good luck, lack of focus is one of my biggest things so you have my sympathy.
I was watching ‘The Merry Gentleman’ on Netflix this afternoon, very satisfying Christmas movie 🤶🤶🤶
Would love to be counted in second pack 📚📚📚
I was a Waterstones bookseller in my younger years, does that count? 😂
@robynholdaway.bsky.social has the best voice and does lots of audiobooks, would highly recommend.
#booksky my reading matter this morning @mslexia.bsky.social can’t wait for the new issue to come out, this magazine always makes me feel like a ‘real’ writer and not just an imposter who is winging it every step of the way.
Me too, very old ones and very new ones are my favourites.
