The Guardian is covering (Australian) Federal Court guidance for AI use; there are other issues: checking AI output in sensitive settings can outweigh the labour savings ; and AI is prone to commonplace rather than technical understandings, leading to major errors www.theguardian.com/law/2026/apr...

At #chi2026 : one thing I’m noticing is how often presenters try to go fast rather than pare down their presentation. To channel my colleague @danachatter.bsky.social : take three key messages and focus on them. Don’t try to compress by speed!
At ACM SIGCHI ; already met many colleagues and at the same time…just how big this conference is these days!
Absolutely that
You do not know how you will react to being sexually assaulted until it happens to you so stop theory crafting your reaction, please.
It's a total misrepresentation. Unviable pregnancies are a nightmare for patients and clinicians.
Dead people are, to him, merely a bonus score on the side of his personal political benefit.
The Australian Human Rights Commissions' report on the status of trans and gender diverse people in Australia is sobering reading. The details of some of the submissions made to them by hate activists in the report are invidious and reveal malicious hostility humanrights.gov.au/resource-hub...
My inaugural lecture is coming up - June 3rd! Talking about my research and lessons about the end of life and loss. Free to attend (in person in Milton Keynes or online), plus opportunity to hear my wonderful colleague @remembermyhat.bsky.social too! Register: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/reimaginin...
People might "feel" all sorts of things, but that is a total word salad that would embarrass a bad GCSE essay. None of the points link to form a coherent argument. There's ALSO the problem people don't want to pay enough tax to train enough clinicians, so we HAVE to get thousands via migration.
Supporting trans hate activists is not fighting the far right it’s joining them
They’re deliberately presenting their beliefs as innate female characteristics… they provably are not. What they’re asking is for transphobic women to have more rights than either women or trans people. Do explain how THAT is equitable?
They also want the test of proportionality to be removed for trans people. That creates a hierarchy of rights, intentionally undoing the UDHR itself. There would be a legal case to exclude trans women if there was a proportionate benefit … but they’ve never won such a claim
They argue that “women’s rights” require any woman to disapprove of trans people’s presence … are you going to claim that’s an innate characteristic women MUST have?
Under the UDHR like anyone else… they’re not actually arguing for women’s rights though.
They claim to have all the science and rely on disproven treatments banned twenty years ago because they proved more lethal than no treatment. How the fuck you cretin is that about anyone being male?
They want to and are legislating to require trans people to be treated at all times and in all cases as their birth sex,and deny at all times and all places anyone to organise on identity not biology. Again, not about anyone being male.
Gender critical is to trans eradication what states rights is to slavery… a fabricated myth intended to make hate polite.
No I’m not confused. They’re dishonest and unprincipled. Why then do the same people complain about trans medicine, trans health, and rely on slurs? The UDHR protects innate characteristics, and they specifically reject the innate characteristics of being trans.
Today I’m grateful for 27 years of support from the National Science Foundation, funding my education, research, and service to the world. All my grants are now terminated or non-renewed, as I believe too strongly in the American dream of equal opportunity. Until we meet again, federal funding.
Those Great Central wagons are looking very tempting!
Absolutely right; and as with other debates she actively wants to remain ignorant of the facts and will deny them at every step.
They use the same mechanisms for disputation as the climate change deniers: ask for implausible or impracticable research design, and set up that their view has to be actively disproved, without them being subject to any evidentiary standard or evidence.
A stunning example of how using ChatGPT does not give you expert advice, nor make you an expert. The Krafton CEO has totally wrecked the company, its finances and reputation.
Well, the misuse of AI in scientific research appears to be continuing. This article from retraction watch is particularly egregious.... retractionwatch.com/2026/03/06/l...
the stink of gender resentment coming off Silicon Valley has been obvious for a while. these men hate women because they hate being told no.
The A/Dean of ITI Dana McKay, Prof. George Buchanan and their PhD student Bingyi Han of Uni. of Melbourne won a best paper on the ethical issues of AI in education. @acm-sigchi.bsky.social
We're delighted that researchers from our Interaction, Technology and Information Discipline have won best paper and honourable mention recognition at ACM SIGCHI. Zhidian Lin, a first-year PhD student gained a mention for her work on affective XR systems.
My post on the gender pay gap across occupations: Men have a higher average salary in 98% of all occupations where one gender earns at least $100,000 average salary

He is also deputy editor of the RANZCP journal "Australian Psychiatry", which strangely enough seems to host his opinions in their pages with unusual frequency.
