This paper represents a small but deeply impressive and genuinely important achievement by the much maligned British state in what is probably the most important global issue of our era.

New SG report published!

Very interesting themes: place-based policy, community empowerment governance, funding decision making.

For other community governance nerds, I recommend the comparative tables, particularly the 11.3 which compares CLLD to the SAFER model for land market regulation. :-)

Time flies! That’s great. Good luck with the last write up push.

👍🏼 hope the report is some use! Would be great to get an update on your research at some point. And I should have guessed you would also enjoy the Zealand Act 😆

New report out, in which I become a fan of the 1974 Zetland Act, and employee owned resorts.

Database of Community Right to Buy Applications in Scotland 2003 to 2025. Database of Scottish Community Right to Buy applications under Parts 2, 3, and 3a of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act (as amended), and Part 5 of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2016 (as amended). Information provided on a range of social characteristics, including postcode, rural classification and Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation. Partial information on size of land (to 2015).

I've published a Community Right to Buy application database, due to ongoing interest. Of particular importance is it's value to communities trying to use the rights, as well as researchers, and the Scottish Government Community Right to Buy review.

Glad to hear the data set is not just focused on England. I was noting the speakers seem to be England focused. What’s your approach to facilitating the discussion to include perspectives from the devolved administrations of the UK?

Interesting event— although from speakers it looks like Who Owns England would be more accurate?

I’m in Knoydart this week doing fieldwork. A gentleman dropped off his personal buyout archive for us to have a look at— an ideal evening of drinking tea and reading land reform archives 👌 😂

In the 1930s, J.A. Dempster and Hugh Smith designed over 50 pithead baths for Scotland and northern England for the Miners' Welfare Fund. Influenced by German pithead baths, they were strikingly modern in appearance. All were demolished between the 1960s and 1980s.

Finishing up an excellent conference on Scottish Law: Land, Environment, power. Some great presentations— very helpful to dig into history and legal philosophy, and lots of planning chat as well. Also a first airing of my CRtB paper!

WE WON!

The Supreme Court has upheld the right to wild camp on Dartmoor. This is a huge win for access to nature.

But we're just getting started.

It was never just about Dartmoor.

We’re fighting to extend the right to roam, swim, and sleep under the stars - across all of England.
