Crow sitting on almost leafless tree twigs, cloudy grey sky.

Observation log - morning, 11°C. Reginald [crow] requested breakfast snack. Didn't collect. Left after several complaints. Thesis:
- hates shutters (they're ugly)
- hates leaf blower (who doesn't)
Update: R. returned 20min later to collect snack after leaf blower left. We have a common enemy.

I haven't seen Yen for months. At this point I believe something has happened to her. I miss her. Reginald was extremely nervous and easily spooked. He shows up again regularly now, but he's still anxious. Sometimes another crow accompanies him. Today he dared landing on the windowsill again.

I'm convinced you're getting full 5 star reviews. I'm jealous.

An occasional cooked egg is also great. I tried mealworms once and the crows weren't happy about those 🤣

It's because peanuts are not suitable for spring food because they're not suitable to give to the chicks the first weeks.... 😄 don't worry crow, peanuts will be back.

Winter's grip is tightening with colder temperatures and snow. 🥶 The crows are very happy for an extra snack today. Their behaviour gives a higher vibe of urgency.

Really happy with how this waxwing capture turned out 😊 Bohemian waxwings are usually a quite rare sight here in the winter, but seems like more than usual have chosen to spend the winter in the area this year. Fortunately it has been a quite warm winter so far.

Photograph of a Carrion crow (medium sized black bird with strong beak, upper 2/3 of body visible) sitting on a windowsill, looking towards the camera, having a tiny snowflake a bit below and behind where its ear would be.

Same crow but whole bird visible, standing sideways.

Today's Corvid couture: Frost-chic accessories! Subtly striking snowflake clip. Can be worn as earrings, hair accessory, brooch... looks great on any other bird with a preference for dark attire.

... once again that hunting associations and hunting licenses are often enough cover for illegal activities, and need to be watched more closely. While it is heartbreaking what happened to poor Puck, this is a great success for the fight against illegal poaching. (3/3)

The poacher shot the bird and then disposed of it somewhere else, trying to hide his crime. But GPS history helped to reconstruct what happened, and the weapon was identified after a house search. Hopefully poachers feel less safe now and think twice. It also displays (2/3)

Redirecting...

The poacher, who has illegally shot Northern bald ibis "Puck" has been identified. The member of an Italian hunting association has lost his licence and is facing charges, both civilian and for the crime against a protected species. (1/3) #birds #waldrapp #baldibis

Also doch recht viele.

Morning. Happy New Year.
A while ago I ran a series of daily tweets about birdsong. The idea was to encourage people to pay attention to the natural sounds around them, and learn to identify birds from their sounds alone (which, after all, is often the only clue you get to their presence).
