#CrowUpdate Mr Crow is bored, or tired, or both. The good news is that he hangs out in the park more and comes to see me (but he doesn't stay long, which makes me think he's more tired than bored)

Hansel stands on the side of an upside down planter that is used to hold peanuts. He's flared his wings out to keep balance. He's looking at the camera asking if he's got anything on his face.

"A Blue Jay fills the frame, its head tilted slightly forward as if it has paused mid‑question, studying the viewer with bright, alert curiosity. The bird’s face is crisp and expressive: a smooth white cheek framed by bold black markings that sweep like fine brushstrokes around the eye and down the neck. Its beak is sharp, narrow, and glossy, catching a hint of light at the tip.

The plumage is a tapestry of blues—soft sky‑blue along the forehead, deepening into richer cobalt across the crown and nape. Each feather is sharply defined, layered like delicate scales, giving the bird a sleek, almost sculpted appearance. The background is blurred into soft browns and greens, making the Blue Jay stand out with striking clarity, as if it has stepped forward from the forest just to be seen.

The overall impression is intimate and immediate: a small, intelligent creature leaning into the moment, feathers smooth, eyes bright, carrying the quiet confidence and mischief that Blue Jays are known for." - Microsoft Copilot

Curious Blue Jay

I noticed this image of a Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata). The bird seemed to study me more closely than I was studying it. ...

My #painting of #magpies treasure has now moved on to the nest itself. Lovely, fiddly, detailed & painstaking work in a symphony of umbers.
And yes, in a nod to #detectorists, I DID add a cycling proficiency badge, just like the one I had in the 1970s.

Jackdaws have started nest-building here in N. Dorset - many weeks after their cousins the Rooks.
As I watched this bird, building in an old chimney pot on Shaftesbury High Street, I was surprised at how much effort goes into locating a single twig.
Final stick success , slowed down.
