Off of Waikiki in Hawaii, I was snorkeling and saw a sea turtle swim to the surface. I came up too. The turtle gave me a look as if to say, "What are you doing in my ocean, land animal?"

The pattern on this bird suggests it's more likely a #Red-ShoulderedHawk. Warm brown, thin stripes on the front, checkerboard on wings and back. Although the colors of red tails vary a lot by region, they generally have a messy belly band across the chest. I don't see that on this bird.

I'll give this a try, as I'm terrible at any administrative tasks. I started birding only around 4 or 5 years ago. I'm now 66.

Two years ago, I somehow deleted my list for that year and never got back to keeping one again. I have seen a bunch since then. 😔

Our driver pulled up pretty close to this lion in Masai Mara National Park, Kenya. A lioness was also lying down nearby. This lion is fairly young, as you can see from his light mane (they get darker each year) and, if you look closer, his nose that still has some pink on it. Lion nose eventually turn black. Whenver you see a lion and a lioness off by themselves, that means only one thing: they have been matiing, possibly for 2 or 3 days. They will mate a dozen or more itmes a day, not eating, sleeping, or drinking. Possibly why this boy looks kinda frazzled.
