I'll call this one "a beautifully-executed, gently chipper meditation on midcentury British industrial decay by one of the finest cartoonists the country has produced".
Three cool scientists introduce their work "Our new theory has been submitted to a peer-reviewed journal, but we feel its depths and intricacies are best appreciated on the limited-edition vinyl release."

Colour capitalism: an elderly woman in an apartment looks out of her window at a snowstorm and looks deeply concerned. A child behind her looks, by contrast, fascinated and excited.
Whether in colour or black and white, this cartoon by William Steig is quite wonderful.
A walk in the woods - follow me along a sunlit path through the bluebells at Chempshill Coppice, Worfield. #Shropshire

A black-and-white photograph showing Sylvia Plath and her young daughter standing beside a black Morris 1000 Traveller car outside their home at Court Green in North Tawton, Devon, in 1961-62.
There was a point in my life when to own and drive a Morris 1000 Traveller was pretty much my one life goal.
I learned recently (from The Daffodil Days by Helen Bain) that Sylvia Plath drove one when she lived in Devon. And then I found this photo online ...
Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage. A woman answers the door. We have come for the child, says the hooded figure So soon? she asks It is time, says the hooded figure. The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card! What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading! For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman, the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them. Do not cry mother. I am a writer now.

Folklore tells that the bluebell’s scent induces a deep, dreamless sleep. Its former botanical name, Endymion non-scriptus, recalls the tale of Endymion, the youth beloved of the moon goddess Selene, whom she lulled into an eternal slumber to preserve his youth. #FolkloreSunday

The 2026 TfL + Uniqlo collection includes t-shirt designs by Fougasse (Kenneth Bird). They mention he worked for PUNCH. But not that he was its Art Editor, which is why he could offer his services to the government in WW2 for free! Here's some of the designs used madeby.tfl.gov.uk/2025/07/08/t...
I'm off to Perugia tomorrow for the @journalismfestival.com! If you're there, join one of 2 workshops I'll be giving, about political cartoons and about humor and democracy:
