I’d like to thank my husband’s family for having us host Christmas this year. We are cleaning and organizing things that have been on the list for a LONG time. 😂 🎄😉

I’m actually going to be hanging out with a friend who’s partner is having surgery at UW on Tues and I thought I’d reach out to see if there was a way I could bring donuts again for the staff Anyway it’s a long shot that you’ll see this but thought I’d try! Thanks.
@nursekelsey.bsky.social Hi Kelsey, I don’t know if you’ll see this but I’m not sure how else to get in touch. I don’t know if you remember me, I gave you donuts for the hospital staff a couple of years ago.
We’ve put a lot of work into making Bluesky a healthier social network. This app is designed to give you a choice — in what you want to see, what you don’t want to see, and how you want to interact.
Some tips on how to customize your experience:
If you want to explore #ungrading & alternative #assessment, join our virtual book club on @josheyler.bsky.social's new book Failing Our Future: How Grades Harm Students, and What We Can Do About It. Feb.-May 2025. Meetings via Zoom. Free to all! www.tinyurl.com/FailingOurFuture

Based on a wonderful suggestion from @jaustinedu.bsky.social, I've created a rough Starter Pack for those involved with #ungrading & alternative #assessment.
If I forgot someone (I'm sure I have!), please forgive me & let me know if you want to be added to the list. Thanks!

Please add @kschumacher.bsky.social and @paula-waite.bsky.social
If you've found yourself making impassioned arguments like "There's no evidence for learning styles and there are better ways to differentiate" or "Learning is more than just a cognitive process" then you may be Learning Scholar! Do any of you use e-ink tablet notebooks? I take handwritten notes at meetings and my to do list is handwritten. Everything else in my life is digital (calendar, etc.) but I can’t seem to switch from handwritten notes. I’m debating between SuperNote and Remarkable right now.

This was a fun way to end the day. Thanks to the brave #POD24 souls who volunteered for our entertainment!
#POD24 2yr/Community/Technical College SIG colleagues, check out my podcast that highlights the amazing work that happens at a technical college!

Last year Wake Forest presented a session on Annual Reports and I’m proud to say our CETL published its inaugural report this fall because of that session. We are also tracking our interactions more effectively via Airtable because of that same session. POD rocks! Thanks Wake Forest!
At Wake Forest, they have three senior staff at their CTL. They track their work w/ individual instructors and their organizational development work. Every year if the one increases, the other decreases, like clockwork. There's a very tangible trade-off between the two in terms of staff time. #POD24
It’s definitely a challenge to read through all the session choices at #POD24 but it’s worth it. 😀
Hey #POD24, Kate Flom Derrick & I have been talking with CTLs about the role “one-off” workshops play in their work. I’ve been particularly interested in the question, given the scuttlebutt about workshops relative to intensive programming. Come engage with our initial findings on Monday at 10:30!
It looks like we're using #POD24 for the POD Network Conference hashtag. If you're on Bluesky or @deck.blue you can click that hashtag to see the latests posts using it. If you'd prefer to pin a feed to your Bluesky feed, I made one for you: bsky.app/profile/did:....
I can't wait for #POD24 in Chicago next week, my first time at POD.
I will be talking up the new OU Press series "Teaching, Engaging, and Thriving in Higher Ed," showing off cool books, and not least, spending time with folks working hard to put more light in the world.
Currently en route to Chicago for #POD24! If you’re around on Monday morning, I’d love to see you for our session on pedagogical improv with @josheyler.bsky.social, @derekbruff.bsky.social, and a surprise special guest. I promise we won’t make you do theatrical improv! But…
Unfortunately, I don't have the bandwidth to put together a big shindig like last year (nearly all of which was @thomasjtobin.bsky.social's doing), but if folks at #POD24 want to hang out for a bit, we'll meet at 8:00 on the Monday of the conference at the ARC Bar in the hotel. Spread the word!
Same!
Is your candidate showing signs of cognitive decline?
My new blog post at Psychology Today. I list some potential signs of cognitive decline that you might see in a candidate.
Clearly this is about Trump. But I was asked to not use his name. 1/

So, who is going to the POD Network Conference in November? There are so many great sessions to choose from and of course several of the ones I want to attend are in the same time slot.

Today at Grading For Growth, I give 20 ways to get started with alternative grading on a small scale. Some of these are simple shifts in approach, while some are more concrete. But they are all good for students!
