Thanks for inviting me to be part of these reflections, @autumm.org. I loved getting to participate in your #pod24 pre-conference workshop and the learning keeps extending from the experience.

I’m clumsily experimenting with video content that I can easily create on the go. Here’s a review of my best tech buy of the year that I recorded while at #POD24

Paper: Outcomes in Early Relapse of Follicular Lymphoma Versus Early Histologic Transformation Following Firstline Immunochemotherapy in Follicular Lymphoma

#ASH24 Casulo et al. report that in #POD24 patients, 52%retained FL, 30% had no biopsy or indeterminate histology, and 17% had biopsy-proven HT. The "real" FL POD24 still had a poor outcome with 5y-LRD of 20% after 2L. The HT group, of course, had a worse OS (HR 3.79)

Inspired by a #POD24 Conference session (“Playful Pedagogy in Action” by Lindsey Hamilton) I have ordered children’s sticker sheets for holiday and winter-themed grading breaks for my faculty.

I hope someone else besides me will get excited about this. 😆

I haven't seen one. I just have a starter pack that largely includes people who work in centers for teaching and learning: go.bsky.app/8xyTsyY

Is there a starter pack of Higher Ed Teaching and Learning Centers out there, by chance? My TLC, @pimatlc.bsky.social , is just getting started over here and looking for accounts to follow. #POD24 #edusky

Tuesday I volunteered to help put on the improve night, and led by the wonderful Thomas, we made people laugh, and it was a great way to get to know and work with folks.
Enjoy these photos, and let's conspire on hijinks for next year! #POD24 8/

I like being involved, and knowing that my center has a rep for showing up in a big way at the karaoke night, I dutifully signed up and couldn't have had a better time singing on my own, with my colleagues, and in a trio! My voice is STILL affected. #POD24 7/

It was an absolute pleasure to experience the conference, eat, and go on excursions with my Kennesaw colleagues and bosses, who have so much respect in this field, and who are so smart and thoughtful and just a helluva lot of fun. #POD24 6/

There were times when I felt, while doing that work on my own (not in a CETL), that these ties were the only community I had, and being able to HUG y'all makes me so, so happy (and for those of you who I didn't get to take a photo with, let's plan for next year)! #POD24 5/

In Liz Norell's wonderful pre-conf wrkshp, I claimed the title of "pedagogy activist" for the 1st time, & it was a moment of deep insight, relief, & connection which frames my experience of being in the pedagogy development community (or feeling on the edge of it) for the last dozen years. #POD24 4/

I began new ships and met people with whom I interviewed for CETL jobs last year who are excited for me to be in my new career path, and it meant so much to experience that joy with them. #POD24 3/

As a writer, it's my job to put things in words, but sometimes it's difficult when, as with my experience at #POD24 (an annual meeting for faculty developers) last week, every day was so meaningful and powerful in its own way. 1/

Wondering if teaching and learning centers are preparing for how to respond to being asked to serve as the classroom surveillance apparatus of colleges and universities soon. Because that’s what they will almost certainly be bent into.

Did this come up at #POD24? If not, why not?

Just chatted about this with @ejrollinson.bsky.social because I was surprised there wasn't more open skepticism of GAI at #POD24, but concluded that we were probably all just very tired.

I also should couch this with, I attended zero AI-specific sessions because I didn't even want to get into it.

Sorry I missed the #POD24 birdwalk and the link is fantastic; thanks Doc Rebecca. But I feel compelled to point out that the birds in the photo are not sandhill cranes. Who are currently migrating through my NW Indiana neighborhoods, btw. 😍

After #POD24, I'm really curious about this: to those who are active users of AI and, particularly, those who are promoting AI in the classroom, how are you accounting for the environmental impact of AI? Shouldn't we address the harms before we widely embrace this in education?

Something for the #POD24 birders :)

Catching up on some podcast listening after #POD24, and I'm glad I didn't listen to these episodes before the election. That said, if the US election of 2024 befuddles you and makes you wonder how we got here, The Rest Is History's 6-part episode on the US in 1968 is sad but enlightening.

#POD24 ICYMI, UVA's Adriana Streifer & Dorothe Bach's session on Values-Driven Consultation Moves provided a thoughtful approach & useful strategies to grapple with a common challenge to #facdev / #eddev —how/when do we bring up our concerns about practices/mindsets shared with us in consultations?

A slide that says:

In Other Words...
Academic writers create learning experiences for their readers, just as teachers create learning experiences for their students. Instead of guiding students through learning activities in the classroom, academic writers practice their pedagogy with readers on the page.

Great teaching practices can translate into great writing practices.

I really enjoyed @jamesmlang.bsky.social's closing session at #POD24, and it made me even more excited for his forthcoming book! Publishing in #HigherEd often feels like a hidden curriculum, and we need more of this kind of transparency to ensure more voices are heard.

Pretty sure most of POD was already half in love with @jamesmlang.bsky.social, but he just swept up the rest. #POD24

It’s been seven years since we have had the opportunity to get together. I’m grateful that #POD24 gave us the chance to reconnect, share ideas, and encourage each other in our work.

A food highlight of #POD24: stopping at a Lithuanian bakery (Racine Bakery) on the way to Midway airport for bacon buns, paczki, and a loaf of Lithuanian rye.

I attended some interactive sessions at #POD24 - as an exhibitor, not as a CTL professional.

But my tablemates cheerfully and insightfully helped troubleshoot work issues in book publishing. And now I leave the conference with some better ways of doing things. Thank you.

One of my favorite things about conferences is handselling—the increasingly rare joy of putting a book in someone's hands.

I know we ran out of books pretty quickly at #POD24. So please note: the OU Press 40% conference discount is good for 30 days!
