The first cherry blossoms are opening late this March. One blossom is nearly open, surrounded by several small buds. The sky is a deep blue. Because their blooming season is so short, cherry blossoms are a strong symbol of how brief life can be. Sakura is Japan’s national flower and symbolizes hope and friendship.
