So my hyperfixation as of this week- networking!

Also added a wee bit of automation to make the host->spawnclient-> connect to host -> make the client small and tiled properly be much smoother

having an animated console log does wonders for making me want to actually write useful messages.

Modern single threaded perf has gotten so fast its kinda mindblowing.

These particles are updating gravity, acceleration, lifetimes, doing the laziest implementation i could think of.

Is it practical? ehh probably not.

The code is mega simple but shocked at the amount of particles you can handle with just a little bit of SIMD and a single thread of a forloop even on a crummy laptop.

So I've started to make a particle system..

Should really code for fun more often

physics is back in the new renderer. All thats left is bringing animations and UI back online. and I daresay i might be ready to start making a game

Having a hex view of various camera data while moving around really makes me hackerman.

After nearly two years of playing with my toy engine I have implemented most things needed to make a game.

But I still haven't looked past chapter 1 of Real time rendering and done anything more complex in terms of rendering than just color to screen.

Oh also new renderer with SDL3 gpu.

Attempted this 3 times but settled on an api I can stick with.

Video shows animations on the player controller with the old system snapping between animations and the new system which smoothly blends between

This is a custom game engine written in zig

Sometimes I wonder what's the end game of all this automation and AI.

(Assuming it works) We could all get food and housing and live a life.

Or... it's ends up with elon musk playing factorio while the rest of us are playing as the bugs.

(And his copper to iron ratio would probably be shit.)

sometimes unreliable too, packets can drop, users can bail out.

latency and resiliency become far more important than raw per-instruction perf.

Which thing in particular?

You know what- it doesnt even matter the answer is yes. My god it is all going bad so fast.

I really liked the old days of the internet when everyone had their own shitty html 1.0 website made in notepad.

Everything was so fast and add-free.

Now the internet is just like 5-6 big ass sites.

Definitey, old school text guides are so much better than video guides for many types of games.

You can search the text for the actual thing you're stuck on. and theres lower chance of spoilers

Difficult as in hard to solve? or difficult as in a boatload of work?

For hard to solve:
1. See how other people solve similar problems
2. Shelve it for later but keep thinking about it
3. Ask does it really need to be done?
4. Call up my boys (beg for help T_T )
5. Grind at it for months on end

Word. I played the LIVING SHIT out of a freaking shaman king gba game when i was a kid and had no money- it was the only game I owned.

Was basically speedrunning that thing from start to finish daily. I can't get past the first few levels now as an adult cuz its honestly not a great game lol.

Bad fucking idea.

I finished 'in stars and time' last year and i still think about it from time to time.

Parts of it is a bit of a slog and I used a walkthrough through one of the chapters (boo me). But the overall story characters and ending still sticks with me.

Some tips for ue 5 though if you want to use it:

You also will want to turn off nanite if you aren't planning on using high res models (which most gamejammers aren't)

Use a non-world partitioned map.

Lumen Has been mostly a win but you can fall back to baked lightmaps too if you dont need GI

To your point; Gaming's become bigger for sure but nearly all that growth is concentrated in like the top 5 games.

Not just that, but tiktok and it's ilk have become time vampires as well.
