The number of NIH competitive awards is down 50% from 2025, and down ~70% from prior years. Even if they catch up by the end of the year, only wealthy institutions can bridge these huge funding gaps. They're killing science-and violating the constitution-by weaponizing the bureaucracy

After intense lobbying, Trump signed executive orders to fast-track data center construction and weaken state-level AI regulations.
AI firms are also pumping huge sums into our elections.

Such an awesome study and I love that you worked with an illustrator and credited her :)) <3

I'm curious what people think about this article I wrote a couple weeks ago for the @snapcoalition.org blog, especially given the news this week that Penn will be required to hand over a list of all Jewish students and faculty to the federal gov't... tinyurl.com/scifascism

This post by @emmascales.bsky.social is a MUST read. Scientists have a social responsibility to be a barrier against #fascism in science & #scipol.
@snapcoalition.bsky.social
A graphic showing the new blog post, entitled “The Lab Bench under Fascism” was published on Medium.
Original illustration by @emmascales.bsky.social for the blog post. It’s a moody picture in varying shades of red. Scientists working at lab benches with glassware are surrounded by blood vessel looking vines that pump things away from the experiments and scientists themselves.
It’s #blog post day!
SNAPper Emma Scales (@emmascales.bsky.social) asks us to recognize patterns in science & #scipol that lead to compliance with & progression of #fascism.
What must change to avoid repeating history? 🤔

So excited to present on a panel at SciTalk with my amazing fellow SNAPpers @alexlando.bsky.social David Ramotowski @eselland.bsky.social @emmascales.bsky.social! If you're attending, stop by the SNAP posters too! Cael Dant @disha-patel3.bsky.social @isakoditomassi.bsky.social @jpflores.rbind.io
Had the best time helping dozens of amphibians cross the road during their annual migration to vernal pools (& some toads just out for the love of the game) with my local patrol group, TCAMP! Earlier this week when we went out we only saw spring peepers, this time: an explosion of diversity :)
@emmascales.bsky.social & I are grateful to receive @researchamerica.bsky.social Meeting the Moment Award on behalf of @snapcoalition.bsky.social and @cornellasap.bsky.social for the #McClintockLetters #SciComm initiative!
Thank you SO MUCH to all ML writers

Congress rejected massive cuts to US science budgets for 2026, but much of the money still isn’t flowing to researchers.
The culprit? The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is quietly slow-walking the release of funds. 🧵👇
Thank your NIH POs: they are working under challenging dictates, including being required to multi-year fund (and therefore cut) grants. Congress caving on MYF means that the NIH budget has been effectively cut significantly. There’s no sugar-coating this.
When you still pander to a man who PLEAD GUILTY to heinous crimes in ‘08, what does that say to survivors who have been denied justice? Why would they ever feel safe when not just one person, but the entire community looks the truth in the face and decides it doesn’t matter? Is that worth a check?
Here’s why this matters: 80% of sexual assaults go unreported because of r*pe culture, where even when people KNOW the truth, they decide it’s not important enough to change anything. We owe it to the survivors in the scientific community to reverse this behavior that has persisted for far too long.
In a Dec. 16, 2011, email, Epstein wrote to Greene, “lets do it =gain” with the subject line “fun.” Greene replied two days later, writing “Good =o see you and would be fun to hang out =gain.” 1/n
You’ve asked #ECRs repeatedly what we need - we need science to stop associating with evil for money. We also need everyone to do better about calling out evil and injustice when we see it. We have to do better.
#AAASmtg #AAAS2026
This. SNAP was incredible and gives me hope for the future of scientific organizations. The fact that #ECRs were the only ones to walk out of the plenary is telling as well.

All laid out in the article I linked
What gets me is that those of us early-career researchers and advocates who presented there didn’t know, and how comfortable they are undermining the work we did to be there by platforming a pedophile apologist in the same breath.
Unacceptable @aaas.org! Time for a clear statement about how “good scientists” don’t associate with famous pedophiles, perhaps? This speaker should apologize too.
As always, the most courageous in the room are young people so thank you to student journalists at Columbia for being the only outlet to cover Greene’s self-made fall from grace. www.columbiaspectator.com/news/2026/02...
To be clear, Greene socialized with Epstein several years after he plead guilty to egregious crimes in 2008. He has claimed that he was seeking donations from Epstein. It’s time to stop tolerating evil to secure financial support in science, and I only wish AAAS had the courage to lead.
It is beyond insulting for @aaas.org to plan to host Brian Greene, an associate of Jeffrey Epstein, for a plenary talk at #AAAS2026, then cancel it the day before, only for the replacement to insist Greene was a “good scientist” and that he wished we could all hear from him.
@snapcoalition.bsky.social memeber @brycewedig.bsky.social described his modeling process for dark matter subhalos in an expertly phrased story that any person could understand!
Truly incredible example of #scicomm skills.
Remarkable work responding to judge questions, as well.
