I'm delighted to announce that the paperback of Upon A White Horse: Journeys In Ancient Britain and Ireland will be published on April 23 by @headlinebooks.bsky.social. Just in time, I hope, for better weather that will allow people to visit some of the beautiful old places I write about.
Turns out “They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists…” was Trump introducing his own administration.
An incredible book. 🌬️
This is my favourite book of 2025. Not quite as spectacular as Hall's Burntcoat but still the most compelling read. 🌬️
The TARDIS and Stonehenge
A hugely popular and internationally recognised symbol of Britishness, associated with time travel & outlandish speculative fictions. And the TARDIS.
The view from my office window never fails to impress. Watching the wintry clouds scud across the sky above the Lakeland hills is glorious, but the added bonus of having the bronze age burial mound of Torrisholme Barrow in my eyeline makes it all so much more impressive. #prehistory
I think I dated him back in the 1980s. 😬
Whoop! Tickets secured for @krankenhausfest.bsky.social and also received my amazing Krankenhat from Jenny Atkinson. What a week! 🐻🐦⬛💜
thanks to all who bought Moonlight Concessions…now in its second pressing and available at kristinhersh.com
I'm currently on the train to Chester, listening to this (trying to drown out the stag party revellers 🥴) See you later!
Some full-on fangirling behaviour from me last week when I got to see Peter Buck play in the teeny weeny Ferret club in Preston. It was a fantastic (if sweaty 🥵) experience. We just need @millsish.bsky.social to pop over to the UK for a mini-tour (minotaur?) and all would be good with the world.
This is just perfect. 🥰
I will be asking to remove 'Queer As Folklore' from the long list for the Polari Prize 2025.
Mine's a pint - 😂
Finally made it to Balfarg Henge last month. It was worth the wait. Scotland does seem to "do" archaeology well, doesn't it? #urbanprehistory
😂
It's an absolute corker! My brother has just moved to Norfolk so I'm now plotting out archaeology trips across East Anglia. 🤩
Still from the 1941 film "Love on the Dole", with the unfortunate subtitle "She's a strange lassie's arsehole".
Catastrophic subtitling on the 1941 movie "Love on the Dole".
(It should read "She's a strange lass, is our Sal"...)
Thoroughly enjoyed nodding off last night whilst listening to @theduncanmackay.bsky.social regaling me with his take on Boudica. Let's see what tonight brings.
Not exactly #urbanprehistory - maybe we need to make space for an #industrialagriculturalprehistory hashtag?
Stone of Morphie 📸 July 2025.
One of my favourite spots along the wall.
Wee Jessie Bear and I are doing some hardcore holiday planning in the 🌞 We'll be based in Angus but also visiting Fife. Very excited that I'll finally get to witness the glory of Balfarg. Any other must-do sites I should see @urbanprehistorian.bsky.social ?
It’s Mary Anning’s birthday, so time to share @katebeaton.bsky.social’s brilliant cartoon again.

Playmobil Obelix has built a trilithon for Asterix, who is correcting him that he wanted to do a triathlon.
No! I said nice day for a TRIATHLON!

The last time I saw Marty Wilson-Piper he was on stage with @julianneregan.bsky.social & All About Eve. I always knew he was a good egg and here he proves that he also has exquisite taste in music 💙 @istevejansen.bsky.social #exitnorth #thomasfeiner #sweetbillypilgrim
Remember to take time to smell the irises 🪻
Probably one of my most-visited sites, but Castlerigg never fails to take my breath away. 📸 March 2025 #StandingStoneSunday
I was too distracted by the light bouncing off his bonce. 🫣
